No more system restore error code (0x81000203)

Hi,

I've been dealing with this issue since yesterday when my acronis back-up couldn't complete due to a VSS issue which is when I discovered my System Restore itself is pretty much gone.

If I open restore, I get this error:

There was an unexpected error in the property page:

System restore encountered an error. Please try to run System Restore again. (0x81000203)

Please close the property page and try again.

I have gone into regedit, there is nothing listed as or for system restore anywhere. I have gone into services and set things to automatic, nothing works. I have run sfc /scannow, I have run DISM online restore health and it's the same. I tried to run acronis restore and that won't work either (because apparently it's missing the VSS thing it needs.)

Any help on fixing this weird issue would be much appreciated.

First one in the article, everything was there & automatic. Still same restore error.

Got to the second one, pasting below what came up in command window, looks like system restore disappeared straight out of the registry from what I can gather?

Try this,

I'll be out the rest of the evening

Download then run the Windows All in One Repair tool from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you ~~first create a new restore point and~~ perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

Did not work. Ran it in clean boot. Ran it in safe mode. Same result with both.

When time permits.

Please run Speccy to provide some more information about your computer's configuration:

Download Speccy and save it to your desktop.

Right-click on the .zip file and select Extract All.
Extract the file to your desktop.
Right-click Speccy.exe (32 bit) or Speccy64.exe (64 bit) and select Run as Administrator.
When the tool opens, click on File > Publish Snapshot.
Click on Yes, then select Copy to Clipboard.
In your next reply, please paste (Ctrl + V) the link to the Speccy snapshot.

Thanks for that it will take time for me to look at and i may need to seek advice from another member...

I know you have done this 12 times but take a look once more while I look over things.

Check the Volume Shadow Copy Service. or might be called Check the Volume Shadow Copy provider Service.

To check follow these steps:

Type “Services” in the search box.
    Right Click on Services and “Run it as an Administrator”.
    Check for “Volume Shadow Copy” Service.
    Set the status to “Started” and Startup type to “Automatic”.

Also check the dependency services that are required for Volume Shadows Copy Service to run.
To check that double click on the service and click on the Dependency tab.
If the issue persists, you may try disabling the antivirus program on the computer to check if it helps.

Did that.

On the dependency tab,

Service depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

And the following system components depend on this service:

(Grayed out) No dependencies.

Checkmark following boxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
List Restore Points

Click Go and post the result.
