Yesterday the screen flickered.

Later I put the computer on stand-by, when I resumed the screen had shrunk to a small oblong with black surrounding it. The top and bottom are straight, the sides slightly concave. Very difficult for me to write this.

I reinstalled the display driver - no different. Same with changing screen resolution. I fear the graphics card is failing / has failed. Screen has flickered / wobbled a few more times.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello scarlet.rose,

 

Can you restart the computer and continually tap the F8 key to see if you are able to get into Safe Mode only (No networking).

 

If you are able to get into Safe Mode, post back and let us know what the screen was like as in was it the same as it is now or was it the full screen with Safe Mode in the four corners.

Thank you for helping me.

 

I got into Safe Mode.

 

The screen looked exactly the same - small / abnormal - but I could see Safe Mode in all four corners.

Not a good sign I`m afraid as that suggests that it is hardware as opposed to software related 

 

I have done a little sketch of what the info in your reply suggests that the screen may look like, can you take a look and let us know if the picture is correct or if Safe Mode is also inside the smaller box with the video, see attachment below.

I said to a friend, that this was not a good result and points to the graphics card, as NVIDIA drivers are not loaded in Safe Mode.

 

Edit - I am out of Safe Mode - I will check again.

If your screen is as in my pic it may suggest a setting/resolution problem.

 

If not done already, try all of the following steps;

 

Right click on Desktop.

Click on Screen Resolution.

Change the resolution setting to “1024 x 768”.

Click on Apply.

Click on Advanced Settings.

Choose the control centre of the graphics card.

Change the scaling setting to 'Scale Full Screen'.

Click on apply.

 

Test then post back with an update for us.

Create a new folder on the desktop, name it Nvidea drivers.

Download and save to the folder the drivers from here

Download DDU from here

Create a new system restore point then run DDU and uninstall all present Nvidea drivers. (if there are any that is).

Restart the computer in Safe Mode only (No Networking).

Install the new GPU drivers that you saved to the folder on your desktop.

Restart the computer, test then post back with an update for us.

Uninstall through Device Manager.

I was about to write that I have just completed the new installation in Safe Mode - no different.............

 

That the screen was wobbling badly and I expected it to go completely black at any minute.

 

That I thought the graphics card or monitor had failed.................

 

Then I received notification that the configuration wasn't correct, I clicked on 'restore defaults'.............

 

The screen went back to normal!

 

Best it's ever been - central and filling out more than usual.

 

I'm afraid I might lose it again.

 

Can hardly believe it.
