I have files I'd like to copy and transfer from an old computer using Windows 98 to the one I have now using Windows 7. The old computer can't connect to the internet. Also, when I put a blank CD RW disk in the CD drive, it doesn't detect it. The W98 has a 3" disk drive, but the W7 doesn't. The W98 doesn't have any USB ports. Any suggestions?

You might be able to add an ethernet card and connect it to your local network. Another option is to take the disk out and put it in an external case or use an external adapter which is used for that purpose (the drive sits out and is intended for short term use). The age of the drive could be a problem is finding an external case or adapter which works with it. At a guess, it would be an IDE drive, but you would need to confirm that.

How do I check what type of drive the old computer has?

One way is to open up the computer and look at the drive. I am not sure if you can get enough of the info about the drive from the OS, but under hardware devices, it might tell you the drive model number and then do a search on it.
