[Waste of Space]

Hi. Maybe one of you Einsteins could offer me a bit of advice?

 

I bought Office 2007 as a download (via MediaFire) and was emailed step-by-step instructions on how to install it on my Windows 10 Professional PC, but what's happening is nothing like the screens and dialogue boxes shown in the instructions.

 

For a start, when the download itself was complete, I was asked by my PC how I wanted to open the big file and was offered various unlikely Microsoft apps for doing this, the least unlikely of which was Internet Explorer, which I selected.  A dialogue box then appeared, offering me the choice of opening or saving the file.  The box looked nothing like the box shown in the instructions and instead of being the Opening Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise.rar box, it was a View and track your downloads box, showing the name of the file and asking the question "Do you want to Open or Save this file?" 

 

Whether I click on Save or whether I click on Open, the only thing that happens is that the same dialogue box is then re-displayed.

 

I seem to have hit a brick wall and don't know what to do next.  All the YouTube videos which explain how to install Office 2007 on Windows 10 seem to show the exact same process that's shown in the instructions which I was emailed.  But it just won't work for me.

 

Any idea how I could nonetheless achieve a good outcome from this uncomfortable situation?

I think I may have some bad news for you....

 

If its is Microsoft Office 2007 you are trying to install then its an out of date Programme that is no longer supported by Microsoft, so it may be necessary to buy a later fully supported version...

 

The genuine Microsoft Office 2007 Programme suite  and later versions, , for example covers many areas Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc etc... and is not particularly       (some would say) cheap. ( It is not free!)

 

There is an Office suite that can be downloaded legally for free, based on an open source licence and its called Libre Office.. it's not a Microsoft Product but there is a  still a fair degree of compatibility between Microsoft Office and Libre Office

All this leaves me a bit confused here, because on Microsoft's own support site (https://support.micr...b4-54f7d7275705) it says

 

'Office 2007 (Version 12) is no longer part of mainstream support and hasn't been tested on Windows 10. However, Office 2007 will install and run on Windows 10. Versions of Office prior to Office 2007 are no longer supported and may not work on Windows 10'

 

-  which is why I purchased it.

 

The seller advertised it as suitable for Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10  -  and he seems to have 100% positive feedback, always assuming he didn't post the feedback himself. There's no shortage of other businesses selling Office 2007 as usable with Windows 10 and they can't all be fraudsters, surely?  As I mentioned, there seem to be various YouTube videos on how to install Office 2007 on Windows 10, so presumably it's not a complete impossibility....is it?

I can't help feeling there might be something I could still do to resolve this situation, if only I knew what the heck I was doing.  But I don't.

I have Win 10 Pro. I also have Office 2007 installed. I have been using it on Win 10 since Win 10 came out. I am not too clear on the file extension you were trying to open to install Office 2007. Was it the Windows Installer (MSI)? If you were trying to install directly from the ".rar" file, you need to unzip it. If not sure how to unzip, take a look at How to open RAR files in Windows 10

 

Microsoft Support says, "Files that are designed for Windows operating systems have an .exe extension. These files are compressed, self-extracting files." Not sure if Win 2007's Service Pack 3 is still required as it did install on Win 10 right from the install disk I have. I did get all the updates that were available at the time but none since. As stated, there are no more being sent since support has been discontinued (April 2017 - the 5 year extended support period). At any rate, Office 2007 should install from the correct install file for Win 10.

 

If nothing works and you can get a refund, I would install the free LibreOffice Suite. Has all the bells and whistles you would need as M$ Office.

AstraNut, I salute you.  The situation was precisely as you suggested, so I downloaded 7-Zip and after that the installation process was even simpler than the instructions I'd been given had led me to expect.

 

I realise now that Windows 10 doesn't come equipped by default with the ability to unzip RAR files, which is why I wasn't seeing the dialogue boxes I was told to expect.  By downloading and installing 7-Zip, I was able to skip almost all the steps which the seller had given me to understand I'd have to go through.

 

I now have the entirety of MS Office 2007 at my disposal, apparently with no bugs and gremlins, and Windows 10 recognised it as the genuine article.  I guess this means I can now delete the original MS Office file from my downloads  -  yes?

Wow! That is great news. You are more than welcome and really glad I could help. Yes, you can remove the MS Office that comes with Win 10. There is a listing in my version just named "Office". It's mostly dealing with OneDrive, Outlook and other limited features of the new Office 365. You might want to keep it so check it out. BTW, Win 10 version is now at version 2004.
