Hello,

 

I just want to ask, is there such a device that I can use to replace my laptop's cdrom with usb ports?

 

I mean like this, please see edited image.

 

 

My laptop only have 3 usb ports and 1 of them is already malfunctioning.

I don't want to use a usb hub because its kinda bulky for me.

I'm using Acer ASPIRE V5-571PG and my OS is Windows 8.1 Pro

Sorry but I suspect that what you ask is not doable, you may already be aware but you can convert an express card bay to take USB ports but having checked the specs for your notebook we can see that it does not have such an express card or bay.

Too bad, my laptop doesn't have express card slot.

I see, what had me scratching my head was the optical disk logo on the right hand corner of the device.

 

The SATA connection that the optical drive uses is the problem as SATA ports are specific to drives, USB ports are as their name implies are more universal and would communicate with a SATA port if the said SATA port was able to allow it.

 

The only way that such a device would work would be by connecting it to a USB header on the notebooks motherboard, this would mean almost a full dismantle of the notebook in most circumstances, not a job for an amateur, expensive for a tech to do and only possible if the system board actually has such a USB header at all.
