Hello,
Well, I have tried to remove Aurora with all my own methods... I booted up in safe mode, ran scans with Ad-Aware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, searched and removed keys from system registry.. And so far, Aurora is winning!
I have followed your "Start Here" instructions and have even re-downloaded Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Trend Housecall ended in an error... but all other apps always found and cleaned something... only for Aurora to reappear.

Here is my log from HiJackThis:

Hi Karen and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

3. There is a malicious Added Service to be removed (023 in your HJT log)

We must stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find the service.

Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service.

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.

B. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type SvcProc in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

C. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

D. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):

C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

4. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

5. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Trevuren,
I had Ewido Security Suite installed on my pc already, but wanted to make sure that I installed with the options you recommended.... so I uninstalled/rebooted/reinstalled with "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu" unchecked.
When I got int the scanner check boxes, Archives was greyed out, so I could not uncheck it. I checked the boxes to Binder and Crypter.
I ran Ewido in safe mode ... and it generated an error so I was not able to save the first log.
Then I ran Ewido, this time selecting the C drive only ( I have a second hard drive - labeled F). This time the Ewido scan completed. .. The rest of your instructions went along without a hitch. I noticed when I brought up this window, that an
Aurora pop up came up... only one this time, though....

following are the logs... Ewido Safe Mode is first followed by Ewido Normal Mode... and finally HJT

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

Nail.exe wouldn't go away.. I deleted it about 4 times.. then finally made it disappear by doing shift-delete 2 times... I thought I done good... but not so...

systb.dll, svcproc.exe, and Ebates_MoMoneyMaker didn't show up for me.

Here's the log:

We must stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

2. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type SvcProc in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):

C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

8. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Next we get out the big guns. !!!

Regards,

Trevuren

Step One:

Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

Run Process Explorer and find the Process in the list of Processes.

c:\windows\system32\qiywcgd.exe

Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...

In the explorer Window select the file c:\windows\system32\qiywcgd.exe

When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

After the reboot check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jkadih] c:\windows\system32\qiywcgd.exe

REBOOT your system and produce a fresh HJT log for Step #2

I downloaded the Process Explorer for 32 bit...
I successfully suspended the c:\wndows\system32\qiywcgd.exe
Then my pc froze!

So... I did a hard boot.

When my pc came back up, I looked in Process Explorer again for the file.. and couldn't locate it.
I then brought up HijackThis.. and searched for the file to "delete on reboot"...not found
I then ran a scan.. and do not see
04-hklm\..\run: [jadih] c:\windows\system32\qiywcgd.exe .. I rebooted anyway... and here is the log after the second scan.

What I think is happening is that the process that we try and kill mutates upon reboot and reinitiates the 023 entry and the Nail.exe

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Find the full path of the following file:eufyhqlngza.exe and add it to the list of files that you will find below in bold.

Download Killbox here: http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.exe and put it on your desktop.

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file

Copy & paste the full path of each of the files below into the Killbox topmost box.

c:\windows\system32\vxpiju.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

Do this for each of the files listed. Some will not be deleted. Make sure you keep a list of them.

When you are through the list, use killbox to delete the files you were not able to delete as follows:

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox. Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No (since you are not finished adding all related files in yet)

Click yes on the last file.

Note: Killbox will let you know if the file does not exist.

After the reboot scan with hijackthis and fix the following if they are still listed

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tvoglqr] c:\windows\system32\vxpiju.exe r
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Reboot and Post a new hijackthis log.

Trevuren,
when I searched for eufyhqlngza.exe, I found C:\WINDOWS\EUFYHQLNGZA.EXE as well as a variation in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\EUFYHQLNGZA.EXE-03F335E4.pf.
I assume I need to delete all variations. Correct?

while waiting on your reply, I began the Standard File Kill. vxpiju.exe would not delete.
then I wen on to Nail.exe... except I forgot to check the box for "End Explorer Shell while killing file". I then clicked on the box and told it to kill again.. first a message came up and said it killed.. then an error came up saying it could not find the file to kill.
Should I continue, or abort?
