I have an old Acer Aspire 5742Z. About 10 years old running Windows 7.

Hadn't used it for 2 or 3 years. Want to pass it on to someone to use for Zoom calls.

Fired up ok first time but crashed on entering Windows password.

Wont boot now. Most times it crashes after a few seconds

Get preparing Automatic Repair screen  sometimes.

Furthest it has got to is Fatal Error C0000034

Ive tried F8 to boot up in safe mode. No response.

I can enter Setup and have tried booting Zorin from a USB. Doesn't work.

Is there anything left to try or is it for the recycling bin?

UPDATE:

I keep trying and I got as far as the Windows password one time. It then crashed.

It had a Windows 10 scren. I thiink it may be trying to complete an update.

Still crashes most times on starting

FURTHER UPDATE:

I've now got it to boot up. It has been upgraded to Windows 10.

Problem now is the battery is not charging. Orange power light is flashing.

I have had similar problem with HP laptop.

Has crashed. Will leave power supply in for a couple of hours and se what happens.

UPDATE 3:

Yep its the same power problem as I have on the HP Pavilion.

Will charge when switched off but not when switched on.
