Howdy yall,

I was hoping you could help me figure out what is causing this problem.

Whenever I play ANY game and either exit it or experience a crash, no other game will properly launch afterwards until I reboot the computer even the same game. The game process will show up in the task manager and says it's using 4mb ram and 0% cpu regardless of what game it is from AAA games to EA indie games.

I've ran my Avast, Malwarebytes, Advanced System Repair, and SFC. they show no problems and I never get any errors. the device manager also shows no issues.

This has been happening ever since I upgraded the CPU and added a bit more ram. Someone in the hardware forum of this site helped me pick out the proper cpu for my motherboard. here's the speccy link: http://speccy.pirifo...0Q7Txw04ekkfjT6

please help me. it's REALLY irritating to have to reboot every time I want to switch games... also in case it's relevant, I've also been having a problem rebooting. it gets stuck on the 'rebooting' message until I press the reset button on the tower. auto-rebooting for updates does not have this issue only selecting reboot from the power menu. It also is the same even if I try rebooting immediately after a previous reboot without having opened anything. so maybe it's not related.

Please help. Thanks

Robert

EDIT: here's the discussion regarding updating the CPU in case it's helpful: http://www.geekstogo...d/#entry2652404

Multiple replies are OK.  Best to post a log as you get it.

Let's see if there is something in the event log that will point at the problem: (Only works for English language systems.  If yours uses a different language then let me know)

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
http://images.malwar...om/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.  (Each time you run VEW it overwrites the log so copy the first one to a Reply or rename it before running it a second time.)

Also:

Let's get a benchmark:

https://www.userbenchmark.com

Click on Free Download.  Save the file then right click and Run As Admin.  Close all programs and pause your antivirus before starting.

When it finishes it will open a browser.  Copy the URL and paste it into a Reply.

After a reboot and before you run any games:

Get Process Explorer

https://live.sysinte...com/procexp.exe

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7+ - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Note the file name.   Open the file  on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

Now start up one of your games.  Create a second Process Explorer log.

Exit the game and  Create a third Process Explorer log.

Hi, sorry it's been a few days but something came up and I'm not at home. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll get those all posted when I get back home likely Monday.
