Sound

Best Answer John Aukerman , 06 November 2020 - 05:53 AM

I created a restore point. Did not check BIOS because suddenly the audio is working properly again. So ... thank you for your assistance. Go to the full post »

Windows 10 desktop suddenly thinks speakers aren't attached. Speaker icon in bottom corner shows that sound is muted. Clicking icon to unmute doesn't work - click is ignored. Control panel says no speakers attached.

Have you checked the update history to see if there were any installed just previous to this happening.

Do you have a system restore point that is just previous to this happening.

If the above do not help, check in the BIOS to see if the audio chip has been disabled somehow, we have no MB details so cannot check to see if disabling the audio in the BIOS is possible on your board.

Latest update was 10/17/20. There was one that failed to install on on ‎11/‎4/‎2020 - 0x8024001e, just before this problem. Should I go back and make sure it gets installed?

Don't know how to find answer to your question about system restore point.

Also don't know how to check BIOS as you suggested.

Not unless it specifically mentions audio and tbh not sure how an update that had failed to install could change your settings, it would need to be installed to do that.

How to Check System Restore point?

I followed instructions and saw, "No system restore points have been created." What to do next?

Nothing that you can do if you have no system restore points, now would be a good time to enable them.

Did you check in the BIOS for any audio chip settings.

Good news

If the audio came back after you had already created the new system restore point please create a new one now that the audio is working.

You are welcome  :)
