About a month or so ago I installed a driver updater.  I think it's a microsoft driver updater.  Since then my computer has been running slower.  It got excruciatingly slow about a week ago.  I'm assuming it's the driver updater because I stopped it from running in the task master a while ago and things got better.  Can someone help me to confirm the problem is the driver updater and if so how to uninstall it.  My OS is Win 10.  Computer is about 3 years old and has been running fine until recently.  I have the antivirus program from Best Buy.

thanks for any help,

Antia

  1. Check you Add/Remove programs to see if you can uninstall it from there
  2. If the first step didn't work then use your Task Manager to see the application name, let's say it's "driver_updater.exe"
  3. Open your drive C:\ and enter "driver_updater.exe" on the search box
  4. On the results list, right click "driver_updater.exe" and click "Open file location"
  5. These type of applications usually have their own folder in AppData\Roaming, let's say it's "Driver Updater"
  6. If the previous step is right, then delete the folder containing the "driver_updater.exe". (Make sure you kill the process "driver_updater.exe" first)
  7. If the file "driver_updater.exe" doesn't have it's own folder then do not delete the folder containing it, just delete the file.

If all of the previous steps fails, then:

  1. On your desktop, press the Windows key + R
  2. On the run box, type msconfig
  3. On the small window that will pop up, select the "Windows Startup" tab
  4. On the list, find your "driver_updater.exe" and uncheck the box
  5. Click "Apply", then click Ok. The tool will require you to reboot, say yes.

This should work.

Ok, I was able to do the things in the first list you suggested.  I found the file and deleted it.  I'll see how the computer responds.  I'll be back if it still runs slow.  Thanks for your help.  Anita
