Hello.  I updated my neighbor's computer with Windows 10.  Since then, he has lost his ability to connect wirelessly.  The machine intermittently shuts down.  It also sounds like it is running constantly in the background.  Please advise on how I can help.

Thank you,

Joanne

PS.  My neighbor is 83 years young, but stressing over this.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry but with the best will in the world it is impossible to help when we know absolutely zero about the computer or the type of update concerned.

Please provide information about the computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

I updated my neighbor's computer with Windows 10.

What was the update exactly, was it from an earlier OS such as Windows 7 or something else.

Two things of note that may explain the present issue/s.

The computer is relatively old so there may not be any Windows 10 drivers available.

The computer did not ship with onboard wireless capabilities which suggests that a USB type wireless device or a PCI-E wireless card has been used.

Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 never goes without the user having problems at the best of times but the problems are always worse with older hardware down to the fact that there are no Windows 10 drivers available.

i suggest that you download a Windows 10 ISO and whatever drivers we can find and then do a clean install of Windows 10 and the drivers, before we provide the info for the Windows 10 ISO you need to do a couple of things first.

Let us know the wireless device details so we can look for the drivers.

Check what drivers are available to you at the emachines download centre here

You are welcome btw  :)

Not heard back from you jbcteacher, do you still require assistance or is the issue now resolved, an update would be appreciated.
