Thanks I saw that.  However, not sure how to run it in Windows 7 since it seemed like it was only good for XP?  Or maybe I am not sure how to run it in command line.  I downloaded the program but not sure what to do next.

Sorry didn't catch that KernView only ran on XP.  Use Process Explorer instead.
 Get Process Explorer

https://live.sysinte...com/procexp.exe

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7+ - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click on System then right click and select Properties then Threads and it should show you what is running in System.  They should be sorted by CPU use so the big users are at the top.  You can select one then hit Module and it will tell you what driver you are looking at.

An alternative is Latency Monitor:

Go to

http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

Scroll down to

System Monitoring Tools

and then find

LatencyMon 6.70 (or it may be a higher number if they update)

Click on Download free home edition

Save it then right click and Run As Admin.  It will install and then start the program.
It will tell you to click on the Start button but there isn't one.
Instead click on the green arrowhead (looks like a Play button).   Let it run for at least 20 seconds.  Then hit the red box to stop it.

Edit, Copy Report text to Clipboard then move to a REPLY and Ctrl + v to paste the text into a reply.

Click on the Drivers Tab.  Click on the column header for "Total execution (ms)" once or twice until the biggest numbers are at the top of the column then take a screen shot (save as type jpg) and attach it.
Click on the Processes tab then click on the  "Hard Pagefaults" column header once or twice until the big numbers are at the top of the column.  Take a screen shot (save as type jpg) and attach it.

Here is the result from Latency Mon 7.0

Note unable to get a result from Process Explorer - see attachment

Attached other information from Latency Monitor

Also attached NT Kernel snapshot.  Not taking up a lot of CPU but running constantly

Thanks for your help!

You are barking up the wrong tree with NT Kernel & System.  It's always running on a Windows system.

Latency Monitor shows major problems with some drivers.

You probably need to update Intel® Rapid Storage Technology driver

https://downloadcent...r?product=55005

Download the one that says: SetupRST.exe

Save then right click and Run As Admin.

That's the newest one available for Win 7 64 bit

Does it work or does it complain?

Go into Firefox and

Go into

about:preferences

and scroll down to

Performance and uncheck the box in front of

Use Recommended Performance Settings

Make sure Use Hardware Acceleration is checked and change the

Content Process Limit to 1

Restart Firefox.

Do you have something connected to a USB port besides a mouse and keyboard?  Try disconnecting anything else and rerun Latency Monitor.

Also let's see a Process Explorer log:

Get Process Explorer

https://live.sysinte...com/procexp.exe

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7+ - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Note the file name.   Open the file  on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

I appreciate you taking a look at this.

Two questions before I begin.

I ran an alignment program (This computer is a SSD) https://www.partitio...on-manager.htmland it showed that my disk is out of alignment.  Should I let it align the disk before I begin the recommended suggestions?

The reason I was concerned is that I have another identical computer with a hybrid 500g hard drive.  And while NT Kernel is in task manager, it is not always constantly going from 00 to 01 CPUS like the computer I am referencing.  So I was wondering what is causing it.

Not sure what your program means by alignment so would rather not try it.  If System is acting funny it is usually because of a bad driver so try what I said first.

RST update (14.8.16.072) worked well - Thanks!  I have tried updating it from Dell previously but it would fail because it said it needed Net Framework 4.5 which was already installed.  This update that you suggested worked.

Some improvement.

You had:

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   39739.622928

Now it is:

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   2649.783467

That an order of magnitude better but still an order of magnitude higher than we would see on a happy system.  If I run it on mine I get:

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   120.20

Also you had:
Highest DPC routine execution time (µs):              878.828444
Driver with highest DPC routine execution time:       iaStorA.sys - Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver - x64, Intel Corporation
which pointed to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology.  Once it was updated it fell off the top and left:
Now you have:

Highest DPC routine execution time (µs):              429.282956
Driver with highest DPC routine execution time:       tcpip.sys - TCP/IP Driver, Microsoft Corporation

The TCP/IP driver is a Microsoft driver so unlikely to be at fault but sort of implies that your network driver might be the next thing that needs updating.
Could also imply that something in Firefox is causing problems so just close Firefox and rerun Latency Monitor and see if things change.

Are you connecting Wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable?  Can you find an updated driver for the one you use from your PC maker's site?  If not tell me what you have and I'll look for it.

Let's collect some more info:

Let's get a benchmark:

Click on Free Download.  Save the file then right click and Run As Admin.  Close all programs and pause your antivirus before starting.

When it finishes it will open a browser.  Copy the URL and paste it into a Reply.

Get the free version of Speccy:

(Look in the upper right for the Download
Latest Version button  - Do NOT press the large Start Download button on the upper left!)
Download, Save and Install it.  Tell it you do not need CCLEANER.    Run Speccy.  When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving),
File, Save as Text File,  (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK.  Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System.
(It will be near the top,  10-20  lines down.) Save the file.  Attach the file to your next post.  Attaching the log is the best option as it is too big for the forum.  Attaching is a multi step process.

First click on More Reply Options
Then scroll down to where you see
Choose File and click on it.  Point it at the file and hit Open.
Now click on Attach this file.

Following is for Win 10 but should be about the same for Win 7:

In the Search box type:  dxdiag

wait for it to find it.  Right click on dxdiag.exe and Run As Admin.
Yes
Once it finishes (green line in bottom left goes away)

Save All Information.  Point it at your desktop and it should save it as dxdiag.txt.

Exit

Double click on dxdiag.txt and copy and paste the text into a reply.

Connect wirelessly.

Looked for updated drivers on Dell website and here: https://www.intel.co...ort/detect.html

but could not find any

Had a copy of Speccy on my computer and use it regularly.  Also have CCleaner (Version 4.19.4867 (64bit)  I really did not like any versions after this one.  What do you think of using this on Windows 7?  Also - what do you think of using a current version (or this one) if it will work on Windows 10?

Thanks for your help.

Benchmark Test: https://www.userbenc...serRun/35958270

These are all my Intel programs:

Ran the dxdiag but then noticed it gave me the option for a 64 bit version and posted it here.  I also saved the regular version if you need that one.

Latency Monitor says you have a Dell Latitude E6540

If that's true there is a newer version of the

Intel USB eXtensible Host Controller DriverPOPULAR
Chipset 17 Jan 2019

available.  That one of the drivers that keeps showing up so it's worth a shot.

The link to the benchmark doesn't seem to work.  Could you try it again?

Let's check your hard drive to see if it is up to speed:

HD Tune

Actual download is at:

Download, Save, right click and Run As Admin.  Run the Benchmark test and report your min, max & average transfer times.  Ideally the graph would be flat or slightly tilted to the right.  On a bad drive you will see sharp drops.  The fewer programs running at the same time the better.  Pause your anti-virus.
This is what a good SSD looks like:

Benchmark Results

https://www.userbenc...serRun/35961600

https://www.userbenc...serRun/35961600

HD Tune

Minimum: 281.5 mb/sec

Maximum: 326.4 mb/sec

Average: 316.1 mb/sec

How do I update the driver(s)?

Also - how can I find out if my wireless driver is up to date?

Went to Device Manager and updated Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Driver

Also downloaded and installed Intel USB 3.0/3.1 eXtensible Host Controller Driver although I think it just installed the same Driver

Thanks

Search for

device manager

hit Enter

Alternatively since this is Win 7 you can right click on Computer and select Manage then Device Manager.

Click on the arrow in front of Network Adapters and you will see your WiFi adapter.  Right click on it and select Properties.

then click on the Details tab.
Change Property to Hardware IDs.  Click on the top one then right click and copy.  Paste that into a reply.

I'll look and see if I can find something newer.  Dell only shows one from 2015.

Your SSD is a bit on the slow side but shouldn't be causing problems.  Did you get a management program with the SSD?  Often they like to be trimmed.

Does the Intel USB 3.0/3.1 eXtensible Host Controller Drive still show the same date  (2018) in Control Panel, Programs & Features?  If not then try Latency Monitor again.

These are the three items listed.  Not sure if it is the Miniport Adapter or the Dell Wireless.  Not really sure what the Miniport Adapter is for.

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

{5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp

Dell Wireless 1506 802.11 b/g/n (2.4Ghz)

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_02081028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_02081028
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&CC_0280

Intel Ethernet Connection 1217-LM

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&SUBSYS_05BE1028&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&SUBSYS_05BE1028
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&CC_0200

Did not get a management program but I have used Auslogics Disk Defrag to perform the trim.  Where else can I find one?  Also noted that there seems to be an alignment problem with the disk but as I mentioned earlier was concerned  about trying it.

Yes - Intel USB 3.0/3.1 eXtensible Host Controller Driver shows the same date - 2018.  I could not find a later version.
