See if you can install this driver for:

Dell Wireless 1506 802.11 b/g/n (2.4Ghz)

You have 10.0.0.306 from 2015 and this is 10.0.0.351 from 2017

https://dl.drp.su/dr...0.0.351-drp.zip

Download, Save and then right click and Extract All, Extract.  Then keep opening the folders until you see four files.  Right click on athw10x.inf and Install.

Normally the maker of the ssd provides tools.  Have you checked their website?

I did not see the file.  Attached a snapshot of the four that I see.

I will check the skhynix site.  What tools should I be looking for?

Found this at a Dell site: https://www.dell.com...de-e6540-laptop

Something went wrong with your download.  Try the attached zip file:

Attached File  Dell_10.0.0.352.zip   1.26MB   231 downloads

The SSD firmware update looks like something you should have if you don't already have it.  I looked on the site and they only provide support to Enterprise customers for SSDs.  You don't need a Data Migration Tool.  That's only if you are installing it into a working system and want to move your data to the new drive.

Thanks for checking.

Here is what I got when I tried to open the file.  Am I missing something?

I will go ahead and apply the firmware update now. - Done using the Windows version

Wrong file.  You want the one that says Setup Information.  Windows is hiding the extensions from you. To see extensions:

  1. Open File Explorer; if you do not have an icon for this in the task bar; click Start, click Windows System, and then File Explorer.
  2. Click the View tab in File Explorer.
  3. Click the box next to File name extensions to see file extensions.
  4. Click the box next to Hidden items to see hidden files.

Search For

device manager

hit Enter

Find your WiFi adapter and right click and Update Driver then Browse My Computer and point it at the folder where the inf file lives.

See if that will work.

That worked!  Thanks.

Not sure if it matters but tried a new benchmark test and declined from 72 to 69

Ran it again with a couple of other items closed and now at 73

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   591.072711
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   18.178392

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       551.541160

Some improvement in HD Tune.  Lot of improvement in Latency Monitor.  It's a lot happier than it was.  Was Firefox running?

Let's see if there are any errors we need to worry about:

1. Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso
http://images.malwar...om/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your Desktop:
2. Right-click VEW.exe and Run AS Administrator
3. Under 'Select log to query', select:

* System
4. Under 'Select type to list', select:
* Error
* Warning

Then use the 'Number of events' as follows:

1. Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

Please post the Output log in your next reply then repeat but select Application.  (Each time you run VEW it overwrites the log so copy the first one to a Reply or rename it before running it a second time.)

Assistance is very helptul.  Notice system is running better and responding better.  However does stall (a little bit) when rebooting

VEW System

My Notes: Items bolded I end using Task Manager.  I am not sure what they are for.  May have something to do with starter copies of Microsoft Word and Excel.  Also always end Adobe Acrobat and Dells System Services.  I am sure there is a better way to do this.  Also - not using a Smartcard on this system.  Even if I was not sure why that Smartcard program has to load.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   648.849594
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs):   11.424506

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       610.838487
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs):       3.171731

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
 REPORTED ISRs
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

 REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Event: 10111 Source: Microsoft-Windows-DriverFrameworks-UserMode
The device Broadcom Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF) (location 0000.001d.0000.001.008.000.000.000.000) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash.  Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times.  Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.

A problem has occurred with one or more user-mode drivers and the hosting process has been terminated.  This may temporarily interrupt your ability to access the devices.

This refers to the smart card reader that is installed inside your laptop.  There should be a slot about an inch long where you can insert the card.

If you are not using it go into Device Manager (It probably has a yellow flag) and right click on it and Disable.  You could try updating the driver if Dell has something newer but there are a lot of complaints about the thing not working.

Speccy shows it attached to a USB hub so it will be at the bottom of the Device Manager.  You may have to open the Universal Serial Bus Controllers to find it.

Not sure what is going on with:

The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

It hasn't happened since the last boot and I don't really have the same thing on my Win 10 so we will have to see if it comes back after we clear the alarms.

Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/11/2020 12:13:58 AM
Type: Error Category: 0
Event: 11 Source: Disk
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

These error will usually go away if you run a disk check on the drive with the error.  I assume this is the C: so the procedure is:

1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check. C:
2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
4. Check both boxes and then click Start.
You will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, but don't restart yet.

Start, Run, eventvwr.msc, OK to bring up the Event Viewer.  Right click on System and Clear All Events, No (we don't want to save the old log), OK. Repeat for Application.

Reboot.

The disk check will run and will probably take several hours to finish.

Once it finishes I would rebuild the Search index since you are having a lot of problems with Search.

https://www.howtogee...-windows-vista/

I always check system files after a disk check to make sure nothing got lost:

Start, All Programs, Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.  Then type (with an Enter after each line).

sfc /scannow

(SPACE after sfc.  This will check your critical system files. Does this finish without complaint?  IF it says it couldn't fix everything then:

Copy the next two lines:
findstr  /c:"[SR]"  \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >  %UserProfile%\desktop\junk.txt
notepad %UserProfile%\desktop\junk.txt

Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator, Continue.  Right click and Paste or Edit then Paste and the copied line should appear.
Hit Enter if notepad does not open.  Copy and paste the text from notepad into a reply.  Close notepad.  Close the Command Window.

Rerun VEW for System & Applications as before and post both logs.

Looks like you have two boots.  Did you rebuild the Search index after the first one?  I don't see search errors after the second boot.

Search for:

services.msc

hit Enter

Scroll down to

Windows Driver Foundation – User-mode Driver Framework

This should be set to Automatic but Microsoft made a mistake while trying to speed up the boot and set it to Manual.  If it is not set to Automatic then right click on the service and select Properties then change the Startup Type: from Manual to Automatic then OK.

This is probably why you are getting these errors:

Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/11/2020 5:17:37 AM
Type: Warning Category: 212
Event: 219 Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-PnP
The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_0A5C&PID_5802&MI_03\7&95fd152&0&0003.

This error:

Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/11/2020 5:17:39 AM
Type: Warning Category: 0
Event: 27 Source: e1dexpress
Intel® Ethernet Connection I217-LM  Network link is disconnected.

Is just a nuisance but if you are not using the wired Ethernet (You use the WiFi instead) you can go into Device Manager and find it under Network Adapters and right click on it and Disable.

For the Dell & Application client errors I need a list of installed programs.

Please download [url=https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/[/url], save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of MTB.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

I suspect you can uninstall several Dell programs that are no longer of any use since your PC is so old.

These two errors:

Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/11/2020 5:17:06 AM
Type: Warning Category: 0
Event: 4001 Source: Microsoft-Windows-WLAN-AutoConfig
WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped.

Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/11/2020 5:17:06 AM

Event: 10002 Source: Microsoft-Windows-WLAN-AutoConfig
WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.  Module Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Dell Unified Wireless Suite\ihvs\AthIHVManager.dll

are mistakes by Microsoft.  They should be categorized as Informational instead of Warning.

This one:

Log: 'Application' Date/Time: 27/11/2020 5:17:41 AM
Type: Error Category: 0
Event: 10 Source: Microsoft-Windows-WMI
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

is another Microsoft mistake.  It appears in all Win 7 systems.  You can ignore it.  Doubt it slows down the boot very much.  The easy way to fix it is with FRST and a fixlist but I get yelled out if I have people run FRST outside of the malware forum.
