Dell Latitude E6540 16mg Ram 512GB SSD i7 Processor

Just updated to Windows 10 20H2  Windows Version 19042.685

Did a chkdsk and sfc/ scannow Both ok.  Only problem noticed is that the that the Equalizer Presets are gone when I check Dell Audio.

Have read of several solutions but wanted to check before trying them before I make the problem worse.

  • Delete driver and restart
  • Update driver
  • Download Driver which I found on Dell’s website and reinstall it 6.0.1.6098, A12

If I try either of these will a system restore put them back if they do not work?

Hello joseph456,

-You should be able to set a restore point before doing anything if you want.

Delete driver and restart
    Update driver
Download Driver which I found on Dell’s website and reinstall it 6.0.1.6098, A12

Delete driver an restart is just going to re-install the driver......try it  If that does not work

Then  Try an Up date driver. You can always roll back the driver.

If not of those work then try Download Driver which I found on Dell’s website and reinstall it 6.0.1.6098, A12 in compatibility mode, See below for that information..

Re-install the newest driver in compatibility mode

To install in compatibility mode do the following:

Right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS

http://windows.micro...dows?SignedIn=1

It's also possible these pre sets may never work in the up dated windows 10.

Thanks!  Also noticed That Windows 10 20H2 has its own set of Equalizer presets in Groove Music which I am concerned may cause a conflict?

Hello,

unlikely Groove music pre sets would conflict but anything is possible. Good that you recognized they were there  In case they do  then we can address it.

Thanks for your help.  First I tried to delete the driver and did not realize it deleted the application.  When I restarted it did not reinstall application (Dell Audio) but instead had High Definition Audio Driver in its place.  I clicked on Audio_Driver_DFR6K_WN32_6.0.1.6098_A12.EXE and it restored the Dell Audio and Realtek along with the Equalizer presets!

Thanks for your encouragement!  And - Groove Music equalizer presets are also there.  Not sure which takes precedence.

I have another issue regarding downloading drivers.  I can start another case if needed.

These showed up after I updated to 20H2.  The driver is the exact same driver that Windows 10 downloaded so not sure why Dell is telling me to install it again.

Maybe Dell doesn't know it was installed. Are there any issues ?

No issues - running well.  However the Free Fall Protection Driver is not installed.

I think it protects against free falls by somehow stopping the hard drive from spinning although I am not sure I need it since it is a SSD?

This package contains the STMicroelectronics Free Fall Data Protection driver. STMicroelectronics Accelerometer is a device that detects sudden accelerated movement of your system and protects data during a free fall.
