My surface pro, phone, ipad etc sees my wifi and I entered the new info and everything is fine.  My Lenova laptop - when I ask to show available wifi I am not seeing my home wifi in the list for some reason.  Why would that be for just this one device?  How do I get it to see my home wifi?

Have your tried,

 

To right-click on the network icon and select network troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions. See if that helps.

 

What exactly does the trouble shooter say word for word ?

There are different types of wifi, some which use 2.4 GHz, older, and others which use 5GHz, newer. It is the laptop older? There might be an option to turn on the older version on the modem.

 

Others might be more familiar in how to determine whether this is the case, but based on what I know that seems like it is a likely cause.

If your laptop cannot see your wifi connection try to manually add the network into your laptop.
