When I receive spreadsheets via email, it open as a totally blank, grey sheet.

I am using Office 2010 and I suspect the spreadsheets are created on Office 365

I've tried:

Uncheck DDE

Disable Hardware Graphics acceleration in Excel

Reset Excel file associations

Repair Microsoft Office

I have no add ins listed

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

The solution here:

seems quite popular.

Hi, I've tried the solutions suggested however the problem still persists

I asked Microsoft for assistance but they said it was likely to be because Office 2010 is too old

They suggested I purchase Office 365

I can open the spreadsheet on Office.com

Any other ideas please?

Can you attach one of the files that doesn't open (or send it to me via a PM if you don't want it out in public)?

You may have to zip it up to get the forum to accept it.

This also seems to be a solution regarding Excel 2010:

Only do this if you trust the origin of the files.

  • Open Excel, Options and then Trust Center.
  • Go to Protected View.
  • Deselect the box for Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet.
  • When you open one of these files you will get a warning message.
  • If you click Yes, it will open the file. You can then save the file in the proper format for future work.

This doesn't look like a file specific issue

I have looked at previous emailed files and I can no longer open files sent many months ago

Until last week, I could previously open these files with Excel 2010

I can successfully open them with Office.com

I can create and send files to myself and they will open ok

I feel its something to do with a windows update

Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately, the box was not checked

Try KB5001330 then.  Lots of reports of it causing problems (tho none about your problem)
