hi!

my computer was infected with the aurora/nail virus and after doing some research ive attempted to get rid of it myself via hjt, killbox, ewido, find_it, nail fix, etc. etc...

the pop ups were completely gone until i kept getting burn/write errors trying to write to a dvdr. when i went online to 'google' my problem, the pop ups started again. could a virus be affecting my dvd burner?
i ran HJT and couldnt point out anymore traces of the viruses...but then again what do i know!

strangely, i cant seem to end process or delete this kuuuura.exe that keeps starting up in the task manager.
well, all i can do now is hope someone here could give me a hand. here is my HJT log: thx in advance.

Hi Jubilee,

Good news is that you donot have Qoologic infection !!!!.

However, most of the infections found earlier are still there !! Let me know if you had any difficulties in getting rid of the files / entries !!

Lets try it one more time -

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

1. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSof1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSof1.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBouncer] C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,DllRun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe] C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kuuura.exe reg_run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

2. Remove Infections

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall / remove the following items -

Virtual Bouncer
Media Access

3. Delete Rogue files

Open Windows explorer (right click on start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files, if found -

C:\Program Files\Media Access <---- folder
C:\Program Files\VBouncer <---- folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSof1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kuuura.exe

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along.

i could not find the kuuuura.exe file even though it kept showing up on HJT. I managed to delete Psof1.exe all instances of alcxmntr.exe, and the kuuura.exe when i followed your directions the first time around. but strangely, the HJT log still showed it as it is now. please help me! my computer is driving me nuts. i cant even back anything up to a disc because my cd/dvd writer is malfunctioning....

oh, ive included a start up process log .. maybe it can help?
thank you.

Hi Jubilee,

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet !!!

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Run Hijack This and click scan. Close all windows other than Hijack This.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kuuura.exe reg_run
O4 - Global Startup: dccc.exe
O16 - DPF: {771A1334-6B08-4A6B-AEDC-CF994BA2CEBE} -

Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix Checked.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following files -

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kuuura.exe
dccc.exe (use the windows search to locate this file)

Reboot the PC. Run HJT and post a fresh log here.

Hi jubilee,

yeah thats the worst kind of malware which downloads and installl junk on your PC !!! Dont worry havent given up on you !!! :tazz:

Download the attached file and save it on your Desktop. extract the file from the zip file and save it in the same place. We will use the file later.

Make sure that the hidden files and system files are visible. For more information read this http://www.bleepingc...ial62.html]page[/URL].

Please disconnect from the internet. If you have DSL / cable connectivity, then switch off the modem or pull the plug connecting the modem to PC. We will connect back later.

Press crtl + Alt +del and click on Task Manager. Click on Processes tab in the window. Locate and click on Kuuura.exe file and hit the end process button.
(an Alternate way of doing it, if the earlier process doesnt work is - run Hijack This and click on config and then Misc Tools tab. Click on Open Process Manager. Locate and click on Kuuura.exe and hit the Kill process button).

Run HJT and click on Scan. Close all windows other than Hijack This.

Run an online scan at Panda and save the scan report.

Run Regsrch.vbs (downloaded earlier and unzipped). Your anti-virus program will flag it as a malicious script but let it run. This tool will search your registry for the key words. In the pop-up window type Kuuura and hit enter. Be patient as the search will take some time. In the end a window aill pop-up. Save the log file. Repeat the serahc with Kavsvc and save the log file.

Run HJT and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report and the two log files from Regsrch.
