I have had this desktop for a few years, and out of the box, It didnt seem like the USB-C port was working properly. It works as a regular USB, but I dont think it works as a proper usb 3.x  At the time, several years ago, I didnt have any devices that really could utilize it anyway, so I didnt care. But a few years later, out of warranty already, I had purchased a new SSD drive. A remember it not transfering at the proper speed, and called Dell support but it was out of warranty. The drivers and connections were all checked and rechecked over the years and i think updated on their own a couple times. Now, I am trying to use it for my Oculus, and so I need it to work properly. Others seemed to have had issues with the component as well when I searched in the past.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Chad

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Speccy detects the device so it is either faulty or there is a driver issue;

PCI Express Root Port
AMD USB 3.10 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 (Microsoft)

It was so long ago that you may not be able to remember but when you clean installed Windows 10 did you then install the Dell drivers in the exact order that they need to be, this is important for all computers but even more so for Dell computers because they are so picky.

How to Install Dell Drivers in the Correct Order

Dell diagnostic tool for checking the USB ports.

NB: Something that will not help is you only having the one stick of RAM, this means that it can only work in single channel and Ryzen CPUs seriously do not like that, USB 3.1 relies on your CPU for support and if your CPU is not able to work to it`s best there is sure to be a knock on effect.

All the hardware other than the SSD drive is as it was packaged by Bestbuy and Dell. This was there CENTER OF THE DEPARTMENT highlighted gaming compbuter at the time. Angels and Music surrounding it. The only upghrade I made was the Hard drive, but to that point, like I said, I don't think it ever DID work properly and that may have been an oversite in original design.

I also remember there being some strange anomaly, when speaking to dell the service tag on my machine didn't match the make and model of the PC. If you call Dell with this service tag it will not bring up an Inspiron 5675.

When I run the diagnostic tool, everything passes. I ran it specifically to only check
USB
USB PORTS

It tells you to plug a device into the ports you would like to test, so I went ahead and plugged in the Oculus 2.
Notice it shows USB 2.0 for the device and port, albeit working properly.  (how to upload a local picture?)

I also did a driver update search. The only driver it suggested I update(urgently at that) is the Wifi and Bluetooth.

If I attempt to install the drivers in order, do I just UPDATE them one by one in order at this point? What if they are the most up to date, do i skip them? Thanks

Something is not right then as you mention having had the computer for a few years but Windows 10 was clean installed last year;

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Computer type: Desktop
Installation Date: 12/6/2020 4:37:24 PM

The BIOS is also shown to have been updated on 10/14/2020.

Only two options and if the device is faulty neither will help, manually uninstall all of the present drivers then reinstall them in the correct order or alternatively clean install Windows 10 and then the drivers in the correct order, you would need to download and save to a USB thumbdrive all the drivers before you got started.

Re your link, if the port is connected to a 3.1C header on the MB the port should be working at that spec and not 2.0.

Going offline shortly but will check back after work tomorrow UK time.

Is it likely that all the peripherals on the device would work, to some degree if it was faulty?

The device has a headphone jack, the mini USB C 3.1 jack, 2 USB 3.0 jacks that have like blue hardware inside and marked with an SS  symbol that says usb and shows a battery, then 2 black USB ports and an SD Card reader. They all operate , the only issue is I cant seem to get that small USB 3.1 to operate correctly. I just want to use it for my Oculus. This particular piece isnt like one of those removable units that you install into a tower, the ports themselves are just drilled out of the Tower itself in the front.
