When I try to shut down the computer, I get sent back to the login screen. Same thing happens when I try to put it to Sleep.

Do you think this is malware-related? I have Kaspersky running on my PC. I am using the free version and the scans don't bring up any threats. I tried closing all the running apps on my PC before shutting down, such as Skype, Zoom, torrent, Kaspersky, etc but the login screen just goes back up again. Not sure what is causing the computer not to shut down.

I am using the Balanced power plan, and I have tried switching to other power plans, but they did not as well. I also tried tinkering with the Sleep and Hibernate options, no luck.

Welcome :)
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click FRST(64) and select Run as administrator.
  • Make sure that under Optional Scans, there is a checkmark on Addition.txt.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The tool will also produce another log (Addition.txt ). Please attach this to your reply.
