The drive not being recognised could be a Windows issue.

Attach the external drive, do the below and one of us will get back to you;

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

The device is detected but as can be seen above something is amiss.

To avoid any repetition, can you tell us what has been tried already, the model name or number of the drive and if the drive shows any signs of life, LEDs on, spinning up sound etc.

2.5" sata ssd acea55WIN brand new replaced under warrantie

 macriumreflect-does not show it

disk manager-shows red flag,disk unknown not initialized

Was a while go went through bios set up. everything else telling you to try it has to be recognized first. yes drive lites up

avoided anything deeper because i know just enough to get into trouble.

Device manager shows disk operating properly

Have you not tried the drive on another computer yet.

Is the drive connected to one of the black USB 2.0 ports as opposed to one of the faster USB 3.0 ports.

Edit to add;

2.5" sata ssd acea55WIN brand new replaced under warrantie

The above does not correspond with what you included in your OP;

Bought 2 ssd's one for main drive,one on usb for back up.Back up drive quit   after 3 mos. no longer recognized.

This suggests that the drive has worked since you got it and has become defective at some point since you started using it, Speccy shows that you have had numerous updates that failed to install, were the Office 2003 etc updates being saved to the drive that has gone bad.

Sorry when I sent op I also had back up drive that i'm using connected.will send new url.

The main drive is still working.

The backup drive worked for 3or 4 mos. and stopped working.

I thought it was a bad ssd  Co. sent new one. which i'm talking about

as far as I know word 3 will not update.

Tried all usb ports.

I hope this answers all questions

The most telling test is connecting the drive to another computer to see it the behaviour changes, no point in continuing here until that has been done.

You may have misread the question;

were the Office 2003 etc updates being saved to the drive that has gone bad.

The answer to the above and testing the drive on another computer are what will determine what you should do.

Looks like the drive needs to be returned under warranty.

You still haven't told us if you were saving the Office 2003 stuff to the problem drive.
