Dear Geeks to Go,

I bought a laptop from my college and it has very little space. I bought an external hard drive so that I could put all my school books on it. I'm extremely confused at this point because I can't open a textbook that I purchased--and I removed as much as I possibly could from my laptop hard drive. I thought that I could open the textbook's exe file on my external hard drive and use it there, but it seems that I can't do that--it always tries to open it on the C drive.

I'm not very experienced in optimizing computer performance or tech-savvy in general, and so I would be so grateful if someone here could look at my laptop's and external hard drive's specs and advise me on how to set things up so that I can use the external hard drive as additional space for all my school work.

Here is my laptop info:

HP Stream Laptop
Processor: Intel® Celeron® N4020 CPU @ 1.10GHz   1.10 GHz
Installed RAM: 4.00 GB (3.82 GB usable)
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
WIndows 10

I'm using a Maxone external hard drive that 320 GB.

I'm also using the free version of Avast for virus protection.

Please let me know if there's any additional info you need. 

Again, I am a newbie with this site and with computer issues in general, so please be patient and explain things in detail so that I can properly follow your instructions. My friend told me about this site and said that you saved her life many times.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s. 

 

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
