I would greatly appreciate any help with a malware problem on my home PC. Symptoms are:
* Crippled internet access
* Aurora / and other less family friendly pop-ups
* www2.bigtrafficnetwork.com trying to connect in place of home page (google)
* Task manager shows random named executables running that respawn (as a new random name) as quickly as I can end them. (I see one of these running even in Safe Mode)

I have performed all the steps recommended on your site with the exception of not being able to pull the latest updates/definitions because I could not connect to the internet (I am posting this from my work PC). Following is the HJT log. Thank you very much.

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\zeqcsvc.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wqlkdll.EXE
c:\windows\system32\cmfxlmk.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Brian\LOCALS~1\Temp\3.tmp\THNALL~1.EXE
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Thanks for the timely reply. It's a pleasure to be assisted by an expert and a Red Sox fan. Performed instructions as specified. I didn't find any of the files I was instructed to delete using explorer so I entered them in Pocket Killbox but don't know if it found them either. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Run The Nail Fix

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

Reboot

Thanks very much for the help. Things are looking better after this next round. I had trouble finding the Nailfix program on the Pandora site. I ended up locating it at a link I found at noidea.us and (the legitimate) aurora.com. It was at dknoppix.com. This seemed to work as I observed no unwanted popups after this and the machine was much more responsive. I saw the Nailfix program run briefly in a DOS window and noticed that the last line was "access denied". It ran too fast to see any more so I directed the output to a file:
