windows xp install

when I try to do a clean install of Windows Xp when the computer boots up it takes me to the beginning screen, but then after a few seconds, I get an exception error
Trap 000002 and a whole bunch of gibberish and thats it. my computer freezes
Any ideas

Is this system newly assembled? Or, did it have Windows installed previously and a problem(s) forced a clean install? If so, what were the problems?
