Hi there
Am learning fast that letting roomates use you laptop is a bad bad idea! Anyway if someone can help me fix this I would be grateful I know you are all really busy.

I intermittently get redirected to adult poker websites, if I pull down the history of my IEaddress bar I see Play Adult-poker.url. Also I have an array of weird things added to my favorites which I can delete but they come back after a reboot they are:

XXX personal photos
AdultGambling
Free online Dating
F*** Real Girls
Kill annoying Popups
Online Sex Poker Rooms
Play Adult-Poker
Remove Toolbars
SPYWARE
Spyware uninstall

Also I get a Yellow shield thing with a pop up box, bottom right of my computer which says Your computer might be at risk and that I should click the baloon to find out more, But its not legit I mean if you are smart enough to write this kind of malware you think you would be able to spell

Anyway I digress my HJT log is below, I can't actually see anything that leaps out as being bad?! I have tried everything else, adaware, Spybot, ewido, panda, CWshredder. Can somebody please help me I've no interest in playing strip poker,my roomates apparently did but they are no use in clearing up this mess. Thanks so much you are stars!!

Hi dayannet and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Please respons ASAP, your connection to your server has been hijacked

Regards,

Trevuren

I didn't mean to alarm you but just wanted you to know that this matter required your immediate attention. (017) entries in HijackThis

1. I need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.
  • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Click on Options, Settings.
  • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
  • Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
  • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware
2. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Network Broadcasting Agent] msnba32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Network Broadcasting Agent] msnba32.exe

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{8EE7D224-223D-4B35-B8DF-78B731E7F51A}: NameServer = 69.50.184.84,195.225.176.37
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D3C2E6C9-A8A2-4167-B48E-E35BB1E106F3}: NameServer = 69.50.184.84,195.225.176.37

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file, and DELETE it(if it is still present):

msnba32.exe<--- Trojan

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

The log looks good. I would like you to run another free scan to see if there are any residual bits of infection in your system. Just because the log is clean, it doesn't mean your system is perfectly clean. If you decide against running this scan, please advise me so I can proceed with the final cleanup.

I need you to download MWav to a convenient location.

This scan might take around 3+ hours to finish when set to scan everything.
I need you to run MWav by double-clicking on mwav.exe. This scan only produces a report, it doesn't clean your system. I will analyze the report and recommend a course of action depending on the results.

Put a check next to the below items before scanning:
  • Memory
  • Startup Folders
  • Drive - All Local Drives
  • Folder - then click "browse" to change the directory to C: (default is C:\Windows)
  • Registry
  • System Folders
  • Services
  • Include Sub-Directory
  • Scan All Files
Please make sure ALL of these are checked, then press the Scan button. This typically will take hours to complete.

**NOTE*** Sometimes MWav will pause and it appears to be finished, but it isn't done. Just let it run until it says it's complete.

On the bottom portion of the window, you will see the lower panel where MWav is listing "infected items", please highlight everything in that lower panel and copy them by holding CTRL + C then paste it here. The whole log will be extremely BIG so there is no way to post the log. I just need the infected items list.

Regards,

Trevuren

Thanks, I've downloaded Mwav and its scanning now I will repost the results when its finished its work! But I do still have the weird items in my IE favorites, if I just delete them will they stay away or should I wait for the Mwav results?

Thanks

Delete any Favorite that you don't want after Mwav has finished its scan. Often malware will deposit some very bad things in your favorites. It is common unfortunately.

1. You have a CoolWebSearch infection.

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about. Reboot your computer into normal windows.

2.

Hi there

I've done the CWshredder scan and it actually said I did not have a Cool Web infection. Also I do still seem to be getting redirected to poker sites and the shield that pops up in the bottom right hand of my comp telling me I am at risk still keeps appearing :tazz:

But on the upside I have managed to delete the weird items that were in my favorites and so far they have stayed deleted.

Do you have any other suggestions, anything is gratefully received.
Many thanks

2. Open HJT, SCAN, and place a checkmark beside the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bcmwltry] bcmwltry.exe
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://zone.msn.com/...aploader_v6.cab

With all items marked for deletion, and all windows closed, click Fix checked and EXIT the program.

3. Make all files visible, as previously instructed (important).

4. REBOOT into Safe Mode (as previously instructed).

5. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file:

bcmwltry.exe

If you cannot find the file using the above method, try using the Windows Search function. In both cases please note the full path of the file in case we need it later.

6. REBOOT your system.

7. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren
