My PC was infected with Spysheriff. So I went through several postings in the forum and try to remove it. I scanned with Adaware, and Spybot, restart in safe mode to remove all the files that I think are suspicious (hope I didn't screw up). I also run hijackthis in the safe mode, and fixed those files and trusted zones that are listed in the other postings.
Then I restart my computer normally, with the internet connection. As soon as it is connected, a program pops up trying to download "freeprod", and from there on, several dialog appears, telling me to click "yes" to download some stuff. At the same time, I can hear the modem makes the clicking noise, as if it is trying to dial (of course, I am using broadband, so my modem is not connected to anything). Lastly, it install Spysheriff and scan my PC immediately, telling me my computer is infected with tons of virus, and prompt me to buy Spysheriff to remove spyware.
So what I did was, to try to get rid of Spysheriff for a second time, similar to the first time. After restarting, I unplugged the internet connection as soon as I see the freeprod program start to run, and it seems to work
, the program stopped running, and Spysheriff is not installed. I plugged in the internet again in order to type this posting.But since that freeprod program tried to run, that mean my system is not completely clean yet. So I need your help! I appreciate any assistance since I already spend hours and hours on it...thanks a lot!
