newb RAM question

Hi all,

I just bought a 1 gig ddr400 3200 RAM stick and am going to replace my 512ddr.

do I put the new one in and toss the old one out, or run the both of them???

Have never done it before so its all guess work! :tazz:

Hi Chelsea,

You should be able to run both!
As long as they are the same type.
Try both and if it beeps continuously when you turn your pc on then they aren't the same type and you will only be able to use one.

Keep in mind while you can run mismatched memory. It drastically affects your over all memory speed. Mainly forcing very slow timings on some systems. A gig is more than enough to run even games at high power. So unless you do anything like video editing you will prob never need it. If I can find it I will show you a link where I went into it a bit more.
