Just want to start with a round of applause for the service you guys provide. Thanks!

We have two computers infected with surf side kick. Was able to remove it on one system by following another thread, but the other computer is more stubborn. There are some suspicious files in my hijackThis log file and I am uncertain which to remove without damaging my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi plen,

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll
O2 - BHO: WinStat - {EE02B99B-1D55-48bc-B8DB-649A42CE45F6} - C:\WINNT\system32\WinStat12.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kry] C:\WINNT\system32\kry.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com
O16 - DPF: NDWCab - http://www.neededware.com/ndw3.cab

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

2. Delete Rogue files

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> settings ---> Control pnael. This should be the 3rd item). Locate and uninstall these items -

Surf Side Kick 3

Open Windows explorer (right click on start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following files, if found -

C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3 <------- folder

C:\WINNT\system32\WinStat12.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\kry.exe

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log.

Followed directions above, but in safemode there was no winstat12.dll or kry.exe

There was a winstat11.dll which I did not remove.

After running Hijack This again it appears the 015-Trusted ZOne: http://www.neededware.com returned.

I removed it again with Hijack This and restarted to find that it returned again.

Any suggestions?

RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (In IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.
To use: RIGHT-CLICK DelDomains.inf and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

Copy everything in the quote box below (Starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the 'Save As Type' to 'All Files'. Save it as fixme.reg on your desktop.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"name from brackets on the O4"=-

Double-click fixme.reg on your desktop. When asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES. After the merged successfully prompt please continue with the instructions below.

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xeuvv] C:\WINNT\system32\xeuvv.exe

Close HiJackThis.

* Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINNT\system32\xeuvv.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "OK" at the PendingRenameOperations prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After your computer reboots, post a new HiJackThis log.
