you should print these directions out as you will not have internet access to follow them

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Program Files\MySearch
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

as for the other entry which is in the registry please do the following:

click on start then choose run
Next in the box that pops up type "regedit" without the quotes.

This will bring up your registry editor.
IMPORTANT please click on file then choose export, save this to your desktop as fixed then hit save.
  • hit F3 and type in Searchcentrix and hit enter.
  • When the scan stops look in the right window and make sure that there is only one entry.
  • If there is more then one entry then remove that entry only!
  • If there is only one entry, then look in the left window and find the open folder and right click on it to delete it.
  • Click F3 again, and repeat the above directions for all entries found.
next reboot your computer. if your system becomes unstable, double click on that file you named Fix, when it asks if you would like to merge it with the registry click on yes.

Hey thanks again for all you help.

I was able to delete the following ( did this step for step like you said)

C:\Program Files\MySearch
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

but when I went tot he registry and typed in seardcentrix nothing came up in the box on the right

and in the box on the left was a collapsable file for My Computer
when I expanded it there were 4 files I did the search but nothing came up on the right side

I typed F3 but still nothing

Maybe I am doing something wrong.

after I rebooted my computer seemed stable and I didn't need to double click
the file that was named fixed.

so far so good

will this clear up the infected files that were left ?

Thanks

There is always the possibitlity that the registry entry was what we call a false positive, basically there might have been a string in the registry that held a similar entry to the Searchcentrix infection. Since you could not find it then I would say that it was a false positive.

will this clear up the infected files that were left ?

you bet it will ;)

congratulations, your system is clean Posted Image

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :tazz:
