The screen saver stopped coming on a few days ago. I can't seem to figure out what is running that would keep the screen on all the time. Also, When i open task manager the window appears to have the top half cut off (thus, i can't click to open the processes). Any suggestions?

Thanks

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

First of all you need to ask yourself this question about Wild Tangent.
Do you recall installing software that included Wild Tangent....Weather Bug for instance? I am not implying that this program is responsible for the problems you have described, but It could play a small part in it. Mainly I'm going to have you scan for spyware of any sort and remove it, we will then see if this problem still persists.

If you do not use Wild Tangent for anything, then it should definitely be removed. It is spyware. If you do then you should be careful when running adaware to not remove the entries that have to do with Wild Tangent or Weather Bug.

Let's start with a free program. Ad-aware.

Using Ad-aware: Open Ad-Aware and use the Check for updates now link. Download and accept the latest reference file. When finished click the Start button. When done scanning, the Abort button will change to Next. Click the Next button. Right-click in the Scanning Results window and click "Select all objects". Then click the "Next" button and confirm that you want to delete the selected entries.

When finished, Reboot your computer.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain (only if you have chosen to remove it, it is recommended that you do)

O16 - DPF: {94118C19-B178-4E43-BBE8-0EFDBB391BDB} (SysWebTelecom Class) - http://www.mildescar...WebTelecom2.cab

O16 - DPF: {AB29A544-D6B4-4E36-A1F8-D3E34FC7B00A} (WTHoster Class) - http://install.wildt...lim/install.cab (only if you have chosen to remove it, it is recommended that you do)

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?.
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

Before deleting files, if you have chosen to remove wild tangent, first try uninstalling it in add/remove programs from the control panel. Then go to the next step.

Again only remove this if you choose to remove this application.

c:\program files\wildtangent (remove the whole Wild Tangent folder)

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :D

The Windows XP Installation disk that installs Windows XP. See if you can get it, you will need it. If you got the pc from the school, they should have the disk that installed windows on that pc, as you will need to use that disk.
