Hi Souss,

Ok we need to replace the wininet.dll file.

Boot in Safe mode.

Rename the C:\Windows\system32\wininet.dll as wininet.old.

Copy (repeat make sure that you copy and not cut / shift) wininet.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache into c:\Windows\system32 folder.

Reboot the PC and let me know how your PC is !!!!

Can you try merging 1.reg into registry??

Try two options (even if 1 works try the other one) -

1. Double click on it and then merge it with registry

2. Run Regedit and then use import function.

Let me know how it goes !!

Hi Souss,

Was conferencing with my colleagues here and their collective and expert opinion is that we should do either a system restore or a repair install of Windows XP !!!!

I would prefer doing a system restore first and if that fails then we can do repair install. Either ways your data / documents wont be lost

If you can access programs at start button then navigate to Programs ---> accessories ----> System Tools and click on System Restore

If you cant, then run this file (create a .bat file with just one command in it) -

C:\windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

That will open the System Restore Window

Choose the Restore to an earlier date option. Choose a date which is atleast a couple of days before when the problems on your PC started. Follow the prompts.

Keep the Windows XP disk handy just in case

something more -

In case the system restore doesnt go well, read this page carefully first - http://www.windowsreinstall.com/

This will give you detailed instructions for repair install for various versions of Windows.

Choose your version of Windows - XP Home or Pro.

Then you can start the repair install.

If you have any doubts ask, before you proceed

the earliest restore point was june 23rd, ie after the problems started. In any case the computer was unable to restore to that point.

Im not sure what to do about the 2nd option. I chose XP home edition, then what do i do? I don't know which to choose.

OK, then we need to do repair install

Repair install will repair the system files and settings. Your data files wont be effected by the process.

Please visit http://www.windowsreinstall.com/ and read about the detailed reinstall instructions. Take care, when the PC is booting up the second time after you choose repair install dont press any key when u see the message - "press any key to boot from the CD".

Any case read the instructions and check with me if you have any doubts

Windows XP Home install from Windows
Windows XP Home Blank/New Hard Drive Install
Windows XP Home Parallel, boot of CD Install
Windows XP Home Parallel Install from windows.
Windows XP Home Upgrade Install
Windows XP Home Repair Install (can you confirm this is the one?)

Thanks
