Hi!

Great website, thanks in advance!

I was infected with a trojan (backdoor) and my home page was hijacked!
I have followed all the instructions in your guide, and finally have installed Hijack this. I've been using Symantec antivirus, and SpyBot mainly. The system seems to be running smoothly again, but the home page of IE is hijacked, pop-ups galore, and also I only have two tabs on my display properties. (Desktop wallpaper was hijacked aswell). Any way I can fix this? Cheers!

Hiya Rankin ;)

Well done with the display issue :tazz: . I would be gratefull if you did not download or repair anything else while i am sorting this fix out for you. I understand how frustrated you must be, but I need to fix the system as it is on the last log you posted. Alterations to the system may interfere with the fix that i post for you. If you have made any changes since you posted that last log, please post a new one for me. I hope you understand. ;)

Hi There Rankin ;)

Ok, you may want to print these instructions out so that you can refer to them later as part of this fix is done in safe mode where you may not have net access.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/. If you already have it, please read and follow the update and setup information given in the next paragraph.

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:
===================================================
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicks...es.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1

O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - C:\Windows\system32\hp3D13.tmp[/B]

===================================================
Cloae all open browsers and windows other than HJT and click on fix

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Good Luck :tazz:

Hi rankin

can you confirm please, that when you ran the panda online scan, that you put a check in the "autoclean"box?

If not, please run that again, with the box checked.

Hi there Rankin

almost done, just a few things to get rid of now.

First disable the Microsoft Anti Spyware Real Time Monitoring Function. This can be restored later.

Please open HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=??? ??? ??? ? ? ??
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=??? ??? ??? ? ? ??

Then close all browsers and windows other than HJT and click on "fix checked"

Using windows Explorer, please delete this file if it exists.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\shnlog.exeold

Then Reboot.

Ensure that the MSAS Real Time monitoring is RE Enabled.

Some undesireable sites have been added to the Favourites list in IE, you will have to delete each of these manually (rightclick>delete). Note only the first file is in bold, delete all the other "url" files on this list too. -
