Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O8 - Extra context menu item: &iSearch The Web - res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

How is your computer running now?

The computer is running much much better, i won't be able to do this last delete for awhile cause my dad's re-flooring the house and the computer isn't hooked up. So without doing that, the popups are gone, the internet is working the way it used to, cox reset the modem and that seems to have fixed it. The only thing is that it seems to lag, takes awhile for programs to open, and startup takes awhile too.

I'll keep the topic open till dad's done re-flooring.

Reply to the topic then and we'll see what we can do.

EDIT:
As there has been no reply from the original poster for more than two weeks this topic is now closed. Guess dad must have finished long time ago.

If you are the original poster and still need assistance, please send me a PM.

As requested the topic is re-opened.

I've been waiting :tazz:

Choose File > Run, type "win.ini" in the Command Line text box, and click OK to open the file in Windows Notepad.
Save it to your desktop as geeks.txt
exit Notepad. Post the content of the geeks.txt file.

***

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options"
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Once it's done, press Close. Reboot the system. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.

***

Rerun Ewido and post me that log. Also post me a fresh HijackThis log to check.

Well i defragmented the disk and it's a little better but still lags a bit, the disks are all like 80% so i have a feeling unless that gets cleaned off that's about as good as it's going to get?

If the disks are that full, I guess that all we can pull out of it.

You may want to clean up the disks, that will help most certainly.

Shall I post you some tips for the future then and close the topic now?

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

    or

    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
