I got 1 gb of ram and I got 1 extra slot, I am thinking of adding one more ram (256 mb). When you add it, does it automatic configure it for you? or you have to go do it your self?

Depending on your motherboard, there is a limit as to how much RAM it will take. If it is in the limits, it should recognize it automatically.

it should recognize it no problem, but if it doesnt for some reason, post back here with info on your motherboard and the ram.

Ye, it should be fine to install more RAM, if not, then there should be a cd with it (Dunno, never installed more RAM?)

Good.. Now, why would you need a cd to install it with when it is CMOS/BIOS that is used to recognize it ??

Also, it is installed ON the motherboard not "near the motherboard"..

Probably means it takes a different type of memory..

Do you not have your manual for the system??

ok, that is likely indicating you board is capable of dual channel ram configs. please list your mobo make/model, along with what ram you are using.
if it is a dual channel config, that changes things in terms of how you want to install, or even if you want to install a 3rd stick.
post back the info, so we can check it out and explain it if you dont understand.
