I have been experiencing the same problem with PowerPoint for several months. The problem occurs when performing basic editing to a PowerPoint presentation (like adding a bullet item to a slide or modifying the header of an existing slide). PowerPoint just crashes and does not give any error codes just that PowerPoint has encountered an error. So far, we have run detect/repair tool & then, un-installed & re-installed the complete MS Office 2003 pro version to try to fix the problem. I have checked almost every site I have found in a google search to see any fixes to this problem with no luck.

Computer details
Dell GX270
CPU: 3.0 P4
RAM: 1GB
Running Windows XP, SP1 –all up to date on patches

Program details:
MS Office 2003 Pro – Complete install

Here is what the event log says:
Source: Microsoft Office 11
Type: Error
Category: None
Faulting application powerpnt.exe, version 11.0.6361.0, stamp 40da0eb9, faulting module powerpnt.exe, version 11.0.6361.0, stamp 40da0eb9, debug? 0, fault address 0x0001af31.

Source: Application Hang
Category: (101)
Type: Error
Hanging application POWERPNT.EXE, version 11.0.6361.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Please help!
Thank you,
Kyle

I am currently facing the same problem. A google search pointed me to this Microsoft KBA: http://support.micro...om/?kbid=827319

When I unregister the VBA6.dll and rename it, Powerpoint will open. However, the Visual Basic Editor is not available. When I do allow it to be added back in, Powerpoint crashes again.

I will try to keep you updated if I find a final solution.

kmwinders give uncle bob's advice a try...and once you rename that file and unregister it
both of you try doing a repair on office (should put a correct version of that file back) by opening any office program and clicking on help > then detect and repair

Hi Kyle,
Don’t worry, I suggest you to try PPT repair tool which performs PowerPoint crash fix and restores all the data stored in it. Few days back, when I experienced the same issue and I tried this utility to repair my PPT file and recover the data. Evaluate the software by downloading it from online and try it to fix errors while opening MS PowerPoint.

All the best,

Kyle,

Problem might not be with Microsoft Office, it can be with the file. I fear that your Powerpoint file has corrupted. Create a backup of that file and try opening that file in some other Computer which has Microsoft Office installed. Besides, take a look at this resource article:

Cheers
