Hello,

Im quite new to Linux, I just installed Fedora and it looks very good. I installed it because I want to provide web hosting to people. I know theres a program called WAMP5 which will start a server but sadly, it won't work with Linux. This gets us to my question.

[help=me];) What programs do I need to make a sever capable of allowing people to upload pages and files to my computer, save it to a file and broadcast it to the net under a subdomain: www.mysite.com/theresite. I would buy the domain, and I need to know what to put it under. I would also like to know how to put restrictions on there folders, Example: Size Limits. I would also like to know how to put limits on bandwidth and how to meter it. ;) [/help]

I know this is asking alot, but I would love to let this spare comp of mine make me some money. If your wondering its (i belive) A Penium 3, 128 RAM, 100 GB(- Software, os, ect) and is running Fedora Core 3.

I would also like to know how to set up a FTP Server.

Keep in mind this is ALL under Linux and Windows programs won't work.

Thanks!

:tazz: [bribe] If you help me, I might hook you up with some free hosting [/bribe]

:help: Thanks again!

That is a low spec for a web server my friend! If it's just for a few friends it may be OK but anymore then a few you might have some issues.

Have you thought about renting a server from a hosting company and doing it that way? It is very cheap and many hosts offer packages to suit your requirements. Just Google for information.

Also have you considered running Apache: http://www.apache.org/

Has all the functionality you require. Just have to read the documentation.

1. You really need a static IP address to operate a web server. I doubt you have one.

2. Unless you have some general security knowledge, your just asking to get hacked and become a spam box.

3. Most ISP's won't allow you to operate a webserver. Also, what's the upload speed of your connection?

If you want to make some extra money consider buying a reseller hosting account from a reputable webhost, and resell hosting accounts using that. Remember you have to be able to provide support too.
