I have a Compaq mv520 color monitor, yesterday i left the computer for a few hours, when i came back the screen dispaly was squashed in the middle,when i press the front panel controlls it says
new mode
h:48.3k
v:60hz

it also sometimes has lines across the screen.

anyone come across this before
help would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a series of buttons on the front of the monitor that enable you to assess the settings. Try adjusting these. Some monitors (for example my Samsung) have a selection in the menu to "recall" the previous settings so you don't have to repeat the process. Maybe yours does too. Check your manual. If you don't have a manual for the monitor, try going to hp/compaq web support and download one.
