I got a trojan on my computer. I am trying to do a hijack this log...and I get 99% of the way through downloading it and i get a message saying it is write protected and I don't have access. Every time I click on the hijack this download button, I get an infected file with the virus W32/Generic.worm!p2p Am I doing something wrong? Is this part of my trojan? Any advice would be helpful because I am at a deadlock.

Oh and I run, Spybot and it finds viruses, cleans them, I reboot and they are back...Same goes for Ewido security suite.

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC.

Lets start with these and then work deeper

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look. How does your computer look?

Ok, When I deleted

04 - Global Startup: Wireless Utility.lnk = ?
I got this messaged...

"Unexpected error occurred!
Error #52 (Bad file name or number) in Sub GetLongPath(?.exe).

Please send a report to [email protected], mentioning what you were doing, and what version of Windows you have.

This message has been copied to your clipboard."

I ran CWS and it didn't find anything at all.
I did everything else and this is the new log.
Now Im going to restart and see if anything is installed again.

Things seem to be running better. I left my AOL up running all night while I was gone. Before I was coming home to a screen full of messages that "I" was sending that were all viruses. But tonight there were none. I have that Cleaner thing on my computer though now. And it keeps popping up a message that I don't understand (I can't think of it right now, I will write it down next time.) and I just click reset the alarm. And my ZoneAlarm keeps popping up saying SysUpdate.exe is trying to access the internet and do I want to allow or deny it? I keep saying deny. Is that right? Thank you so much for all of your help.

Try this for the Zone Alarm-

get rid of:
C:\WINDOWS\SysUpdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpdate] C:\WINDOWS\SysUpdate.exe

and then reboot your computer and see if you get that message again...when you scan with an anti-virus, you get no virus's that come up correct?

Also download CleanUp! and run that program to get rid of some unnessary files in your computer

Hope that helps

I deleted the sysupdate files... I haven't recieved that message from zonealarm again. I ran spybot, ewido, and cwshredder and they all came up empty. I ran cleanup as well. Everything seems to be running fine now. Thank you so much for your help.

The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

Then after Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. ;)
