I'm a mom who only uses the Internet to read and I use Word to type. I have started having trouble now and see Aurora ABi popups all the time. I downloaded everything advised and followed instructions (ad-aware, spybot, etc), but they're still there. Plus, I have McAfee viruscan and it keeps popping up saying I have Trojans every once in awhile. Here is my HijackThis log (help is appreciated):

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

I downloaded the ewido, but when I tried to download the Nailfix, it immediately said it found a trojan (I didn't even run anything) so instead of clean it, since you said not to run it yet, I selected "none" when it asked what action it wanted me to take. But then it says the file is invalid or corrupted. I tried downloading it again and now it won't even pop the thing up that said I had a Trojan. It just says invalid or correupted. I also tried extracting the files from the zip file and it says it's empty. :tazz:

Hi - bear with me since I'm computer illiterate. I ran the ewido and will post that log below. I also ran Hijack This next and didn't see anything with F2 - REG:system.ini:Shell=Explorer...etc. Was I supposed to see it in that list? I clicked fix checked but I didn't have anything checked. Will post both logs. Sorry I'm so green on this.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

I downloaded it to my desktop and tried to click on it, and here's what it says:
C:\Documents and Settings\TiffanyDow\Cookies\Desktop\l2mfix.exe
(Then it says:)
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

1. Open Hijackthis and click scan. Then tick and fix the following in Hijackthis with all windows closed except Hijackthis.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,DllRun

2. Delete the files. (if present)

C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll

3. Go to start, run type "services.msc" with out the quotes find the service.

System Startup Service

Right click and stop it, make the start up type to disabled. When you have done that go into Hijackthis > open the misc tools section > delete an NT service and delete SvcProc. Then post a new Hijackthis log here in a reply.

Can you also go to the l2mfix folder find backup.zip and send it to osc at atribune.org where at is @ and remove the spaces.

I wish I knew all this stuff. My computer is so slow and there's no telling what all is on here that I don't want or need. Here's the Hijackthis log: ps - for some reason, I don't see the file extensions, so when i went into c:windows i saw two things - a cfgmgr52 file with a gear on it (which is what i deleted) and an entire folder for cfgmgr52 (which i left alone). fyi...
