You don't need to hit the gnat with quite this big a sledgehammer. what you did was open an .exe file with wordpad with the "always use this program" box checked, and that put a thingy in your Register. Go to Start>Run, put in "regedit" (w/o the quotes) go to HKey Classes Root, go down the list till you find .exe, left click the folder, on the right you'll see an icon with Default, in this case that will be wordpad. Right click that icon and choose delete. When you reboot your problems should be over.

If you haven't followed the above advice yet, or if you looked and it was irrelevent, how are you trying to start these files? From the start menu or icons on the desktop?

It is likely that the problem is not EXE but LNK files.

More importantly, this
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Internet Settings - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cUbview.dll

looks dangerous. I suspect malware, possibly vx2betterinternet

Before addressing your program starting issue, you need to be checked out in the malware forum

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
