start > run
regedit
<enter>

navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

in the right pane, see
"DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000

right click, delete it

start > run
regedit
enter

navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

choose the key, export as pol.reg, zip then attach it to next post.

you said this earlier...what did you mean by these?

clicking links on AIM,
browsing for files to send thru AIM, MSN,
attaching a file with email or forums.

Yep, ok, say me and you are talking on AIM or MSN. If you send me a link say www.geekstogo.com and I click it, my AIM/MSN window will get a not responding message and I have to end task it.

Same thing with sending file. When I want to send a file thru AIM, MSN or even attach a file here, when I go to browse, and when I go select what folder I want to go to in 'Look in' it freezes.

Sometimes when I want to attach a file here, I have to restart and do it. After 5-10 minutes when my computers up, the symptoms occur.

download process explorer from sysinternals

http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

unzip, run

click VIEW and check everything that begins with SHOW

this is task manager on steroids.

Load it, FILE > SAVE AS, make a text file and attach it to a new post.

These problems seem oddly unrelated--the regestry setting that prevented loading task manager was odd, but since we removed it...why is task manager not loading?

There are malware programs that preven taskmanager from loading, but there was no evidence in you hijacklog of this...thought that perhaps you had a rootkit, and perhaps you do....usually, you see something in evidence though.....did you have any malware infections proior to this?

You ran all the steps at the top of the malware forum, before posting your hijackthis log?

Yes, I did, my HJT log is posted where its supose to. Hey gerryf. Its been 20 minutes since my computer has been up, and I can CTRL + ALT + DEL! Usually after 5-10 minutes, the symtoms began. I have no idea whats going on or what fixed it, but lets wait to see if it happens again. I will let you know if things act up again.

SO FAR SO GOOD MAN!

get process explorer....make a report while it's working.

then, when things get buggy, run a report and give it a different name so we can run a comparison
