Hi Garth Pro. Welcome to Geeks to Go. :D

I don't see anything glaringly wrong with the log after a quick read-through. Can you tell me what problems you're having?

I also need you to download a new version of Hijack This.

HijackThis Guide

Also, it would be a good idea to download these free tools.

]Spybot Search & Destroy[/URL] Download and install. Start Spybot S&D using the "Spybot-S&D (easy mode)" link from your Start menu . Click the Search for updates button, if any are found then click the Download Updates button. After all updates are downloaded, click the Check for problems button. When the scan is complete, place a check next to anything marked in red, then click the Fix selected problems button. You may need to run Spybot S&D multiple times to remove all infections.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
-> Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

When finished, Reboot your computer. Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<

Sweeeeet! I have some time to work with you now.
The main prob. is when I click on any explorer window, it directs me to
http://a-search.biz/?wmid=1010
if I go back and click a few more times, it will occassionally take me to the page i want? I have never seen this before, and it undoubtedly came about when someone? was surfing porn!
I couldn't even click on the links in your email, I had to copy and paste the urls

You have a browser hijacker aboard. You also need to update windows. Without updates, all our work will be a waste of time because you will get reinfected. But before updating to SP2, we have to clean up all your malware.

I need you to run adware and spybot before posting another log. Thanks. <_<

Let's try again.

Run www.moosoft.com

Reboot

Please Download CoolWebShredder, from http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=17 , Extract it & run the program. Click the Next Button & let it scan. Make sure you let it fix all CWS Remnants.

OK. You have an old version of Spybot Search and Destroy. We need you to download 1.3 and access all the updates.

Clean out your temp files and post a fresh log.

Party on Garth!

<_<

OK. Let's change the way we're doing things.

1. Download windows updates EXCEPT SP2.

2. Is Roadrunner the home page that you want? I think you have the about:blank problem.

3. Is McAfee running OK or is it sticking and having some problems.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [DELDIR0.EXE] "C:\DOCUME~1\Default\LOCALS~1\Temp\DELDIR0.EXE" "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Shared Components\Guardian\"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [M3Tray] C:\Program Files\Movielink\MovielinkManager\Movielink Manager.exe /WNDSTART /Tray (And do you use movies? this entry has been difficult to research)

I have to wait on Microsoft to send a new disc out for XP. They are mailing it for some reason, soething to do with a reinstall.? ( I ordered that two weeks ago so it should arrive soon)
Anyway, I:
-Uninstalled MovieLinx, only used once anyway.
-RoadRunner is the HomePage I want
-I Uninstalled Mcafee several months ago as Roadrunner was offering EZ Antivirus, so Mcafee shouldn't be there anymore?! Although, Mcafee seemed to be much better about actually getting updates out. so I may go back.

how did you learn all this stuff? IT degree?

I learned it all when I sent in two box tops and a proof of purchase from Captain Crunch. :D
Poor attempt at a joke.
I think I'll let admin. or one of the others review your log. I know we need to update windows. I'm not sure if we should wait until that is done before we start fixing things or I might be missing something. <_<
Get rid of McAfee if you don't have it any more.

Try downloading this to see if you can get your itnernet connection back.

Hey Garth & Coach,

Looks like I've got the exact same problem as you. Can you guys help?
Hijack This deffinitely doesn't seem to pick it up... I've looked through it a million times, just can't find anything.
Spybot S&D cannot find anything either (Both of these programs are the latest version)

What exactly happens is this:

Open Internet Explorer (doesn't matter if you open it through an icon, through a favourite shortcut, anyway at all as long as you're opening a new window), and the page you are trying to load comes up with the "Action Cancelled" screen for a second before re-routing to "http://a-search.biz/.../?wmid=1010"...

It seems that this problem has come off a pornography site (checked my history, never leaving my computer alone again :D)...

Also, the problem as slipped through everything... The latest Windows Update (which I have) does not stop it at all, nor can it fix it. So updating windows isn't the way to go...

<_< :D PLEASE!

I may have just found a way to fix it... Stand by and I'll give you more information once I confirm that my suspicions are correct...
