Well I feel stupid...

TDS-3 gave me a wake up call, so lets fix the issue. Sorry for my stupidity.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
c:\winnt\system32\bbomaqq.exe
c:\winnt\system32\ppvku.dat
c:\winnt\system32\rrmpau.exe
c:\winnt\system32\rruikcc.dll
c:\winnt\system32\uunsk.dll
6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Fund FindQoologic.bat again, and post the log for me.

Thanks!

I pasted it like you said and rebooted. Still no change in the rrmpau.exe file. I am beginning to think it's unmovable!

In any case, here's what the logs say:

Hello!

Qoologic is a nasty infection. We might have to killbox the same file many times to achieve the result that want.

We are going to use a different option on Killbox this time. We will use Replace on Reboot, and Replace with Dummy.

What this will do is delete the file, and then it will replace the file with a "dummy" file that will make some new files show up.

Boot into Safe mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Replace on Reboot", and then "Use Dummy"

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
c:\winnt\system32\rrmpau.exe
6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.
Run FindQoologic.bat again, and post the log for me.

I did what you asked in safe mode (and also tried it again in regular mode) and it appeared to have done something, but it didn't work (the file is still there upon reboot, which I had to do myself -- it didn't automatically do it).

I got this "error":

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by External Process!

I wasn't sure if that meant something good happened or if it was an error. It was a red circle with a white X in it.

In any event, the file is in the most recent hijackthis log.

No problem.

I really appreciate all your guys' help.

Basically, it seems that there is a file that won't go away rrmpau.exe and we've tried everything down to Killbox in Safe Mode with a replacement on Reboot (results in a previous post).

I am not sure how much else is left besides that, but it seems there might be a few others that come and go and then come back.

Thanks again in advance...

Ok analyst44, I've reviewed the topic, let's get to work. You still have quite a mess going on there.

I'd like a new FindQoologic log, a new l2mfix log, and a new HijackThis log, all from Normal Mode.

First, run findqoologic.bat and post the log from that.

Next, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Then do another HijackThis scan, and post the logs here.

analyst44, I apologize for the delay, bit of an emergency at work yesterday.

Please first save these directions to the desktop as a text file, because you will need to copy and paste part of them later.

Please download and install Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

Open Process Explorer Right Click on rrmpau.exe and Select "Suspend"

DO NOT Close Process Explorer after Suspending the Process!

Please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINNT\RMAGEN~1.DLL
C:\WINNT\system32\rrmpau.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

After reboot, rescan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NumChk] NumpChk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINNT\system32\rrmpau.exe reg_run

Now, close all windows including your browser and then click "Fix Checked" in Hijackthis.

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

NumpChk.exe (you will need to do a search for this file)

Reboot, and download the file I've attached to this post and unzip it to your desktop.

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Please allow the entire script to run.

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy&Paste those results in the next post.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log as well as the trackqoo results.

Hi. Sorry for the delay. I cannot suspend rrmpau.exe because it is not listed in Process Explorer or the Task Manager. When I run HiJackThis! it shows up as a registry entry, but the process itself is not running.

I will attempt these instructions as is even though I cannot suspend the process and see where that gets me.

Also, when using Killbox, when you highlight more than one row of information to paste from the clipboard, does it paste all the rows or just one? It appears that it is just one so I was wondering if I am supposed paste each line seperately.

Thanks,
Mike

Ok... I did what you asked despite what I said above about not seeing rrmpau.exe as a process and also with my question on Killbox in terms of th muli-line deal.

rrmpau and numpchk do appear to be gone so I hope I am on the right track!!!

Thanks!

Here's what I have:

analyst44, it looks like we got it, thanks to jfcap doing all the work :tazz:. Just a bit more to clean up, I'm really not sure how findqoologic.bat didn't reveal this registry entry and file, but we found it now (thanks to Cretemonster for the batch file).

Please run Notepad and paste the following text into a new file:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\ffqxykkx]

Save the file to the desktop as fix.reg and make sure the "Save as Type" field says "All Files". Then please go to the desktop and double-click on fix.reg, and click Yes to merge it with the registry.

Next, use killbox on the following file (you should be a killbox expert by now):

C:\WINNT\system32\uunsk.dll

After reboot, post one more HijackThis log for review, and let me know how your computer is running.

I got the same thing that I got when using killbox with JFcap...

I got this "error":

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by External Process!

I wasn't sure if that meant something good happened or if it was an error. It was a red circle with a white X in it.

I am about to reboot, but I wasn't sure if that was a bad thing or not.
