This is the SpybotSD.System startup report, I can not locate the Teatimer box or Resident box on Spybot (under Startup Icons) in order to disable Sbybot Resident. Should I be looking for another name? Please help , I do not know what I am looking for here. I am still experiencing the icons on the desktop (new ones today..Starbucks, DVD CAMCORDER,True Love) When these icons appear, should I just move the icon to the Recycle Bin--how should I remove the icons from the Desktop??? Thank you, I have been away from this Computer for a couple of days. I really appreciate your help!! Give it to be as I am a novice trying to get rid of this CRAP!!!!Please advise, I think we may be getting closer..Also, if it helps I am including a recent Hijack this Log, I know I still have the steps to complete with disabling the Spybot and Spamsubtract, and AOL Spyware...did not know if something else may have appeared as to why I can not find the Teatimer.

You are so right. I change the instruction.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Click Allow Change box.

Then follow the advise.

Sorry, still a little confused. Per your instructions you tell me to Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Click Allow Change box.

However, the REsident "Tea Timer" Box is already unchecked and the Resident "SD Helper" is checked. Should I uncheck the "Sd Helper" box is that what you are referring to when you say uncheck Resident???? Please be a detailed as possible because I am not that familiar with the software and terminoly. I apologize for my level of understanding. Also, could you please look at the previous Hijack This file to let me know if the instructions you are giving is still going to fix the mysterious adware icons that appear as well as telling me what I should be doing to dispose of the icons on my desktop??? REad the previous post I had some ?'s regarding steps to follow. Thanks again I just did not want to do the wrong thing and mess up the computer any further..

View Post

That's exactly what I mean. Make sure there are no checks to either of them.

Please follow my advise by the letter. Then, when you did that, post back what I ask for. That way nothing will happen we don't want.

Fresh Hijack This File..SpamSubtract & AOL Spyware were not running when I accessed the Task Manager in Safe Mode. All other instructions have been followed, when I delted the folders for the Adware I did not have to go back to the Desktop to delete the shortcuts, they were already gone. Please advise from this point, what you see> Thx

Just one left.

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup...Bridge-c139.cab

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot and you log should be clean to go.

How is the computer running now?

That is the only thing that seems to still be running a tad bit slow at start up, (waiting for prgrams to start in the Task Bar) From all the programs that you had me to load for the clean-up, are there any that I may now uninstall or do I kep them all? Pleae advise and thanks again for all your help!

You can stop these from running at startup:

c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe
an application that allows users to upload scanned images to their personal webpages if desired. Available via Start -> Programs

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
http://support.micro...om/?kbid=210875

You could also try to defragment the disk first.

You can remove:
Process Explorer, Killbox and HijackThis. If you run into trouble again, check the 'start here' topic to see what programs are needed.

----------------------------

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
