I have followed all the instructions in the "post Hijack this" section. I have loaded and run CleanUp, updated and run Adaware & SpyBot repeatedly, I ran a Panda Scan, downloaded and ran CW Shredder, Loaded & ran TDS-3, ran a Trend HouseCall scan, downloaded and run AVG repeatedly, loaded and run Ewido security suite repeatedly, done all my updates, rebooted ... everything. And I'm on a crummy old dial-up connection so it has taken me three days. ~ sigh ~

So, here is my Hijack this log - I'm not sure if I've done it correctly. I'd appreciate any help one of you experts can offer.

Please do not open another topic, I've merged the two together now.

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder.

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!


Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

***

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.

The program will now go to the main screen
[/list]You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed, close Ewido for now.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, please download and install AdAware SE 1.06.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Now open Ewido Security Suite

• Click on scanner
• Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
  • Binder
  • Crypter
  • Archives
• Click on Start Scan
• Let the program scan the machine

While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

• Click Save Report
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

I followed your instructions step by step. Here are the results. For some reason my system seems to be running more slowly now ....

BTW - what is the "backups" folder now appearing on my desktop?

The Adaware came up clean. The Ewido also came up clean.

Your still running HijackThis from the desktop. HijackThis creates backups and that's what's on your desktop now.

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Scan local drives for temporary files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.


Once it's done, log off and log on again. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.

Hi again g2i2r4,

I *thought* I _did_ move HiJack This from my desktop. Please forgive (and direct) me if I did it incorrectly. I went into "my computer", selected "c" drive, created a folder called "HiJack". then I went back to my desktop, "cut" the Hijack this program and then pasted it into the new folder. I ran it from the new location as there is no longer a HiJack This icon on my desktop.
Is this what I should have done? Is the problem perhaps some old Hijack files on my desktop?
I deleted the back-up files it had previously saved on my desktop.

I already had/have Clean-up on my system and have run it numerous times. I did it again three times (and for both users) just now.

I went back and went step by step through and repeated the items as you instructed - again. I have now run the smitfraud fix 3 times. I did wait for the program to complete each time and rebooted each time.

I have updated and re-run Ewido - it still comes up as clean.

I updated and reran AdAware (twice) and it comes up as clean (log to follow).

I also updated and reran SpyBot Search & Destroy and it comes up as clean.

I manually deleted the following file that the prior Panda Scan found:
Adware:Adware/CWS No disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Julia\Favorites\Fun & Games

I reran CleanUp and rebooted afterwards.

I'm not sure why it is not working.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please check to see if this file is on your computer:
C:\Windows\web\desktop.html

Also please do this:

* Please rightclick this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved.

Should I delete it and then empty my recycling?

Leave the hidden file for now. When we are done cleaning you can reverse it to default again.

Open Notepad, copy and past the text from the box to an empty file
Save the file to your desktop
name runinfo.bat
type: all types.

Close Notepad
Doubleclick runinfo.bat
It will open a notepad file. Place the content of that file here in your answer using ‘add reply’.



For the silent runners:

Did you receive a warning about a malicious script? Did you allow the entire script to run?

Try this:
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
In the command prompt use this command:

assoc .vbs=VBSFile
Note the space behind assoc

That should get Silentrunners on the way.

For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
Once it's done it will create a log.

Okay, so here I am again (or should I say *still*).

I am so tired of this danged spyware. ~ sigh ~

Anyway ... I did as you directed. I still wasn't able to get Silent Runners to run when I chose "yes" at the first prompt (something about check all). But, it did run through when I chose "no - default" mode. The log is copied below. No "malicious script" messages appeared.

I also did the "run info" log, and it is also pasted below.

Do either of these explain anything? About why Panda still shows spyware ... ??

Unzip it to a convenient place and open the program.
Choose "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK".

Thanks for all your help.

Here is what I have done so far - today:

Run SpyBot & AdAware (both clean)

The TeaTimer in Spybot was already disabled.
I did find two malware files tied to the start-up in SpyBot - so I disabled them..

I ran Hoster as requested - Restore Original Hosts.

I re-booted. I then ran Killbox and deleted the file names you gave me. I checked after re-boot and they do not appear to be in the system32 folder anymore.

I re-booted again. I enabled the SpyBot Tea-Timer and deleted the two malware files Spybot showed as pinned to the start-up.

I ran a Panda Scan again.

I am **STILL** infected!

I am so tired of all the time this is taking. I have 4 little kids that need my attention. Can you tell me, honestly, do I *need* to bother getting this stuff out of my system? I have spent hours, and you have spent hours (and I appreciate that!). But we don't seem to be much further ahead ....

Hi yet again.

I went into my c: and found those two C:/!Submit files for DealHelper and TopSpyware. I manually deleted them, emptied my recycling, ran CleanUp again and re-booted.

I then ran another Panda Scan and the log shows only the following entry:
Spyware:Spyware/Dyfuca No disinfected Windows Registry

So ... can I access this to delete it somehow?

Do I need to produce another HiJack log?

If we get rid of this .... will I *really* be clean? Finally?

By removing this folder:
C:\!Submit\
you removed what was detected.

The dyfuca thing is a line in the Registry, no more than that. It's not the infection itself, just a leftover. If you want to clean that one too, do it some other time (I'll still be here). You can leave it if you want to, it cannot hurt you now.
