THe CD loads all 98 with no indications of an error but after the reboot I get a notice that I am missing the following files.

vpowerd.vxd
vxdmon.vxd
msmouse.vxd

Then I get a NT Kernal error.

I tried two different CD's

Is this a clean install or is it over another operating system? Were there any files at all on the disk when you ran the installation?

It was loaded over ME. I did not clear the disk. I have one hard disk and two partitions. I have data on the second partition I do not want to lose.

It's interesting. You say it's loaded over ME. Does that mean ME is on the second partition? I didn't think you could install 98 over ME, ME being the later version.

Did you run a thorough scandisk on that partition? The files may not be loading because of a defect on the disk. These are virtual device drivers and my understanding is that they are loaded into the page file system on the disk instead of RAM.

I was told that these were 98 2nd edition or something like that. It was supposed to be equivilent to Me but had more drivers available. What is the real differnce between the two?

I did run a full scandisk. Should I format the primary partition?
