Hello Damsel!
Excal is having problems with his Internet and wanted to make sure you were taken care of, so he contacted me and I will be helping you now :tazz:

Please delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html

Then, Go to Start > Control Panel.
Double-click "Display"
Click the "Desktop" tab
Click the "Customize Desktop" button
Click the "Web" tab and uncheck "Security Info" (or if something else is checked uncheck it and let me know what it was)
Click OK, Apply, Ok.

Reboot your computer and let me know if you're desktop is back to normal (or can be changed back to normal!)

Hi Bananafanafo and Excal!

Sorry to hear about internet connection. Thanks for taking over for him. :tazz:

I could not find C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html, but I don't think much matters for when I performed the following steps my desktop problem was at last fixed! :help:

I performed some scans again just to be sure and it appears I have the "All Clear"! :help:

Thanks a million guys! I'm so glad I found this site! Keep up the good work! ;)

I'm definately going to make a donation for your efforts! :help:

CHEERS! ;)

Excellent! :tazz: I'm happy to hear everything is back to normal ;)

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up ;)

I recommend checking the http://www.microsoft.com website periodically for critical updates to install.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Ewido Security Suite <= Protection against Trojans, Worms, Dialers, Hijackers, Spyware, and Keyloggers.

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
[*]Firewall<= A firewall is definitely a must have. Three good free versions are Sygate, Kerio, and ZoneAlarm.
[/list] If you choose to use one of these firewalls, you will need to disable the XP firewall that comes with Service Pack 2.
