partition/xp install problem

My laptop does not work.. hp recovery disks do not work. i have a bootable dos cd which gets me to a:\ but from there i cannot do anything. c:\ come up as 'invalid drive specified'. what do i do? i was running xp.

Try doing a non-destructive restore if you have your XP cd.
