Hello,

Go to your controlpanel > software > add/remove programs and look if NewDotNet is present and choose to uninstall.
If not present, look if there's an uninstaller in the folder: Program Files\NewDotNet.
That uninstaller will be labeled uninstall6_38.exe.
If not present there too, look if it's in your C:\Windows . It will be labeled NDNuninstall6_38.exe.
If still not present, use the following one:

http://www.new.net/s...install6_76.exe

Also uninstall next if present:

QuickSearch
Viewpoint Toolbar (Viewpoint -- Viewpoint manager)
Taborama
PSGuard
SpySheriff

REBOOT

go to next site:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

On top you'll find: File to upload and scan.
Now browse to the next file:

C:\Windows\System32\wininet.dll

Click submit and let it scan.
Post the results in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Then we will deal with your desktop and other stuff.

Hello,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBarBHO.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard] C:\Program Files\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpySheriff] C:\Program Files\SpySheriff\SpySheriff.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\Program Files\PSGuard <== folder
C:\winstall.exe
C:\Program Files\SpySheriff <== folder
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <== folder
C:\Windows\desktop.html

* Download http://metallica.gee...m/smitfraud.reg and save it on your desktop
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to add the content to the registry, click yes/ok.

open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoChangingWallpaper"=-
"NoComponents"=-
"NoAddingComponents"=-
"NoDeletingComponents"=-
"NoEditingComponents"=-
"NoHTMLWallPaper"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\General]
"WallpaperFileTime"=-
"WallpaperLocalFileTime"=-

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SpySheriff]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

* Reboot your system.

Try to change you wallpaper again and post back a fresh HijackThis log and I'll take another look.

If you had any problems with deleting files or noticed any other problems during your fix, let me also know in your next reply.

Great!

Now check and fix next leftovers in hijackthis again:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBarBHO.dll (file missing)

Perform a full scan with an updated Adaware SE and/or Spybot S&D to get rid of the leftovers.
If you don't have those programs yet, you can find the downloadlocations in my sig.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

First of all, it is really important you install an antivirus and firewall, because your system is extremely vulnerable for the moment without those present and malware can get installed very easily.

AVG, Bitdefender OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decreases the reliability of it seriously!
Zonealarm, Kerio OR Sygate are FREE firewalls.

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Kaspersky online and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
