I was trying to reboot with WIN2K setup disk because system registry got corrupted and PC would not reboot.

Needed to boot from CD-Rom so I changed the boot order, and saved to CMOS.

Now, when I tried rebooting, I could hear the HDD, see a video signal on the monitor which stops, but still hear HDD, and light on CD is flashing, light on keyboard is on.

So, I have 2 problems BIOS or CMOS? is not working and registry is corrupted. Please suggest what I need to do to restart the PC.

Thanks
Ravette

Open the case, ground yourself by touching metal, remove the battery on the motherboard for 10 seconds, reinsert battery, restart machine.

After a lot of trying everythhing suggested here and on the MS website, I finally had to start over and reinstall WIN2K Pro.

Just so you know, if you try to upgrade from Symantec System Works 2002 when your subscription expires this year, it will tell you that they no longer support 2002. Then, you will need to buy 2005. Symantec does not tell you to remove 2002 before installing 2005. After installing 2005, it tells you to remove version 2002, which I did with win add/remove programs. My system which had not needed to GOBack once in 17 months, just crashed. MORAL of the story: uninstall Norton 2002 before installing 2005 on WIN 2K. It did not do harm to WIN XP which I upgraded a few hours before.

In the end, after many hours and discovering that the BIOS did not even recognize the C:\ much less F:\ (2nd partition), I had to reinstall.

So, now I am going to have to spend the next few days reinstalling everything and restoring my files. I only lost this week and last, not too bad. But truly a real pain in the rear butt.

Thanks to everyone for prompt and generous help.
