I have read and followed the rules and performed all of the steps in the ‘read this before posting HiJack This logs, with the following exceptions:

When making the recommended settings in AdAware, I tried to check ‘unload Explorer and Internet Explorer if necessary in the tweak settings, but that option was greyed out and I couldn’t get it to be checked.

Couldn’t get microTrend’s Housecall to run …. I clicked the ‘scan now’ link, but nothing happens other than a window flashing on the side that disappears in less than one second. The scan never runs.

Did run Adaware and spybot search and destroy, but followed instructions from your website. Was not able to run an online virus scan, but did run Norton antivirus. I have not updated windows, as my connection keeps cutting off and I can’t finish a good update. (56K at the moment due to a two week long and continuing outage of my ADSL service)

I can’t access ‘My Computer’ from the icon, Control Panel or Explorer (NOT IE, but the normal windows explorer.exe) from the start menu or via any other method I have been able to think of. So I can’t access anything from explorer, or the settings. I can use the run command to get to the device manager, and the ‘find’ link works. If I click the links, the system freezes and I have to reset, even doing ctrl-alt-delete and clicking shut down won’t shut down the computer.

I have tried checking the properties by right clicking on the my computer link, but it won’t give me the path. I think the links have been corrupted (perhaps by letting Norton ‘fix’ links. I tried TweakUI and used the repair links option, but it didn’t solve the problem.

Please help me if you can, I am self-employed and my work is on the computer and internet, and I haven’t been able to work for almost a week now due to computer problems ….. getting really hungry!

See my notes in bold red text that I have added to the HJT log file.
Thanks,
Lori
